「幸せの敷居を低くするのが、人生をハッピーに生きるコツなのかも」…あとがきにある都筑さんのことばです。まさにその通りだと思います。

魔都・名古屋の章がいちばん楽しめました。名古屋という土地の持つ魅力はもちろん、お三方の「楽しんでやる！」という熱量がハンパなかったような気がして。

「一緒に旅行に行って楽しめる人かどうか」は、冒頭の都筑氏の提言（？）に賛同できるか、実践できるかどうかで分かれてくるのかも。

村上春樹隊長率いる東京するめクラブの面々（総勢３名）が、現代人の行動の盲点にあるような土地を訪れ、その魅力や脱力や無力や底力を探訪した本。名古屋、熱海、ホノルル、江ノ島、サハリン、清里。清里はまだ華やかだった頃に通過したことがあり、大自然の中の悪夢のような光景に唖然とした記憶がある（私はとなりの野辺山に泊まった。到着日は見事な高原の風景で、朝になったら写真をたくさん撮ろうと思っていたが、翌日は濃霧で５m先も見えず断念）。

面々の観光体験は一見お気楽な物見遊山にみえるが、実はバブルの乱開発（開発という言葉は止めたほうがよい。環境破壊である）の痕がそこかしこに現れ、「良識のない・趣味の悪い、欲に目の眩んだ連中に余計な金を持たせたらどんなひどいことになるか」が繰り返し描写される。もちろん、するめクラブに日本の業者による乱行を告発する意図など、少なくとも公式見解としては毛頭ないだろう。しかし、享楽的な発言に隠されてはいるが、失われゆく長閑なるものへの惜別の念が私にはそこはかとなく感じられるのであった。

なお冒頭の名古屋編ではまだ手探りで、ルポは恐る恐るだし、意図をよく理解していないのか発言の一貫性すら怪しい隊員がいるしで、この本は失敗ではないかと思った。しかしその後企画がこなれてくると、文章にも各人の個性が現れ、ホノルルあたりから俄然面白くなる。最初の一時間は、少し我慢して読まれることを勧める。

　ああ、懐かしい、この感覚。もう二十年以上前だろか、椎名誠が日本、世界のあちこちを旅して回った、いわゆる旅ルポが流行った。よく読んだ。東ケト会、東日本何でも蹴飛ばす会だったかな？　シーナと彼の取り巻き連がどこへでも思いつきで出かけて行って、面白可笑しくルポをするというもの。『日本細末端真実紀行』、懐かしい。そういうテイストがこの本に受け継がれている。のかどうか知らないが、そんなノリである。面白いと思う人には面白いだろうけれど、どこが面白いのかわからないという人には、分からない。ハマるかどうかだな。基本的には旅ルポは好きなので、読むほうだ。やはり出色は「名古屋」「熱海」「ハワイ」か。村上氏、吉本氏、都築氏三氏の視点が食べ物のなんじゃこりゃトリヴィアルからうらぶれた温泉地の再開発的なデザイン提案にまで及ぶところはなかなかの観光論にもなっている。２００２年から２００４年の雑誌の連載なので２００８年の今どうなのかはわからない。こういうものは旬があるから仕方がない。うむ、うむ、ふふ、ふふ、あーそうか、時々笑いを入れながら読む。でも最後の「サハリン」「清里」あたりになるとだんだんテンション下がり気味なのはちょっと長すぎるせいか？全５２４頁。写真、三氏の対談付き。
