絶妙なタイトルにひかれて買ってみたものの、あまりの内容のひどさに耐えられず、1/3ほど読んだところで投げ出してしまいました。
私が群ようこを手に取ったのは初めて。よく目にする名前なので、これほど文章がつたないことに驚きました。
他の方のレビューにあるように、平林たい子という人物がいかにはちゃめちゃだったのか、というのはよくわかります。また、当時の常識にとらわれまいとしつつもからみとられていく様子もよくわかります。
でも、それは著者（群ようこ）の筆力によるものではなく、平林たい子の生き方を自伝小説などからひっぱってきたから。
小学生の絵日記レベルで「たい子はアレをしました。悲しかったです。たい子はコレをしました。嬉しかったです。」という記述が延々続くだけ。「それでも彼女はこんなにチャーミングだった」というところも伝わってきません。

一気に読みました。あの時代では生きにくかった、しかし、あの時代だからこそ活きた、女性だったんだな〜。友達にはなれそうもないが、一種、あこがれもある…常人には体験できない人生ですな。群さんの、伝記物、もっと読みたくなりました。

タイトルが絶妙です。
少女のような性格を一方で持ち（妖精）、その一方でえげつないまでものエゴイズム（妖怪）が滲み出ています。
そんな彼女を佐藤愛子が解説で、「生きることへの情熱と背中合せに冷酷さよエゴイズム」を「世間の通念や常識によって識らず識らずのうちに溶解されていく」のが普通なのだが彼女は「最後まで自我を溶解させ」なかったとします。そのために「苦しみ悶えつつ情念に身を委せて妖怪になってしまう。」としています。
まさに、この本は「平林たい子」と言う女流作家が、先駆的に「女性」の生き方を求め、それでいながら旧い体質が垣間見せながら生きてゆきます。
その一人の女性の苦悩と葛藤が実に良く書かれています。
素晴らしい評伝だと思います。
