経済学とは、人々の心の中にあるものが資本、お金となって数値化される（と錯覚されている）ため、理工学的な学問として取扱えるような気になる。しかし、理工学を含めた自然科学には再現性が必須であり、そこに繰り広げられる事象は人々の意思や気持ちとは無関係でなければならない。一見当たり前のことであるが、人々の気持ちや思想にかかわる「文学」に近い「経済学」が、あたかも「自然科学」の範疇として取扱えると思われているところに、悲劇の根本があるように思えてならない。

経営者や企業は、その「理念」を元に行動をしている。そこには経営者の「カリスマ性」や創業者「理念」が色濃く反映され、それが駆動力となって企業活動が行われて、社会還元されるのである。そういった意味では、どの業者も著者のいう「カルト性」を持っていると思われる。問題は、その「理念」が社会規範に照らし合わせて「常識的」かどうかであろう。その最終判断は司法が行うことになるのであろうが、著者の本書での警告は、その前になされたものであり、「個々人が思考停止に陥ることなく、個を確立する必要がある」との主張、全くもって同感である。

私は著者の作品を初めて読んだが、本書から「自然科学を捉える常識的な目」を持った優れたルポライターであると感じた。著者のような冷静な視点を持つ著者は現在の日本では稀になっているのではないだろうか。そのことに日本の将来の危惧を感じざるを得ない。

ページをめくる度に「えっこれも？」という驚愕に襲われた。タイトルは電波系でいかがわしいが、内容は本当に濃くて感心させられた。 ベンチャー企業とその「カリスマ企業家」がもてはやされているが、その企業のトップは何を考えているのかしっかり見極めなければとんでもないことになると警告している。そして、「ゆとりの時代」とか「物質面より精神面の豊かさを」というような耳に優しい言葉の裏に潜んでいる「怪しいもの」にもっと注意を向ける必要があると思った。新しい形の「日本型経営」が発生する可能性が示唆されていた。

意外な有名人や知識人が実は心霊主義やカルトの信者であるのがこの本を読んで驚いた。まさに頭のいい人間ほどだまされやすい。

ただ、この著者はＥＳＰやＵＦＯをいきなり非合理、オカルトで片付ける傾向がある。個人的には科学的で批判的な超心理学やＵＦＯ研究を非合理で一蹴するのはまずいと思う。非合理なのはこういった現象を鵜呑みにして信じ込み、批判を無視するような姿勢だと思う。もっとも著者自身はそのつもりはないようだし、後に日本懐疑主義の会合で、自分が批判しているのはオカルト思考が浸透する日本の体制だとか言っていたが。

多くの有名人を実名で批判しているのは興味深いが、某心理療法家Ｋや元東洋大の創造心理学者への批判がなかったり手薄だったりと、すべての批判を網羅しているわけではない。

盲信する人間の恐怖を知る上で、この本は大変貴重な存在である。
