心に残った文を記載します。
・「文語文のなかには共通のモラルが流れている。それは芝居や講談落語にも流れているのと同じもので、それを私たちは失ったのである。」
・「祖国とは、国語だ。それ以外のなにものでもない。」(シオランの言葉)
・「あらゆる思想は出尽くしたと絶望して人類は方向を転じたのである。産業革命である。」
・「文明開化は東洋を捨てて西洋を学ぼうとして、皮相だけを学んで根本に及ばなかったから私たちはその両方を失ったのである。」
・「その風貌に威信を失ったのは伝統と無縁になったからである。もう一つは分業にせいである。古人はみな多くを兼ねた。文武両道といって武備しかないものはあなどられた。」
・「リズムを失えば暗誦の能力を失う。（中略）ローマ!帝国はギリシャを滅ぼしてもその子弟にギリシャ語を学ばせた。」

人の子の親として、何を学ばせなければならないか、自分も何を学びなおすべきかを気づかせてくれる一冊です。

これは絶対読んだほうか良いですよ。
わたくしを含め多くの日本人は正漢字・正かなつかいや、文語体や候文をまったく受け継いでおりません。いまさらながら、失ったものの大きさに悔しさが込み上げてきます。
そういえば、大学の入試科目で文語文があるのは京都大だけとか。

フランスの哲学者シオランは「私たちは、ある国に住むのではない。ある国語に住むのだ。祖国とは、国語だ。それ以外の何ものでもない」という言葉を残している。だとしたら、すでに日本はこの世に無いのか！？
この本は、文語文がいかに美しいか、簡にして要を得るかを教えてくれます。
先哲の名も多く出るので、読書の世界を大きく広げてくれます。

また、福田恆存先生の『私の国語教室』も抑えておきたい。
