本屋で見かけてなんとなくタイトルに惹かれて買ったが、私は椎名誠という人をまったく知らなかった。世の中にはこんなに忙しく、日本中を駆け回っている人がいるのか･･･と関心し、少しあきれた。

本当の人となりは剛毅でいつもリーダーシップを取っているような人なのではないかと思う。ベースボールチームを作って、たくさんのチームを集めてしまうくだりなんかからはそう思える。でも一人称で語られる世界からは、なんだかかわいくて、ちょっとドジで、人目も気にしちゃうおじさんの姿が目に浮かんでくる。

その起伏にとんだ人生が実にうらやましくなる、そしてなんだか微笑ましい気分にもなる一冊である。

夫が読んでいたのを横取りして読んでみました。本好きとは言えない夫が読む本とは？と興味があったので。
読んで納得。椎名さんは現代の仕事に追われるサラリーマンのおじさんにとって、夢のような生活をしているのですね。
旅に出て、おいしい食事やアウトドアの生活、ベースボールの後のビール、まさに中年親父がやりたくてやりたくてたまらないことが椎名さんの生活にはあふれています。本を読んでいる間は彼と一緒にそんな生活を満喫している気分になれます。
束の間のそのひと時のために、椎名さんの本はあるのでしょう。これからも世の親父のために、自由な旅を続けてくださいね。

椎名氏が各地を転々としつつ書き続けた連載をまとめた本の中の一冊であるが，単なる紀行文ではない。時には三角ベースに夢中になり，ある時は雪山の奥にこもって2000年問題によるパニックを待ち焦がれ，またある時には歪んだ日本社会を真剣に憂い，コギャル達をズダズダに斬り捨てる。椎名さんの生きざまや独特の視点を，独特の文体で書き連ねたものである。
軽いノリの文章であるが，内容は決して薄くはない。読者は思わず吹き出したり，昔日を懐かしんだり，つくづく椎名氏の人生がうらやましくなったり。この手の文章は，椎名氏の真骨頂である。
沢野ひとし氏による巻末の解説も味わい深かった。沢野氏は，椎名氏とはまさに盟友と言える人物。さすがにその文章は，とくに男ならフムフムと思うような内容である。
