読んでみたけど、他の人物のルポも面白く、全部、興味深く読みました。

趙治勲。確かにいっとき、凄かったな。「2008年 51歳11カ月（史上最年
少）、入段から40年2カ月（史上最速）で史上2人目の通算1300勝達成」
かぁ。

石原慎太郎。そうか、最初の都知事選は負けたのか。2016年のオリンピ
ックは、Chicagoでしょ。

山田泰吉。1988（昭和63）年の9月15日、87才で逝ったのか。伝記、ある
のかな。

小椋佳。一浪して東大に入ったのか。

多田雄幸。「オケラ五世優勝す―世界一周単独ヨットレース航海記 (文春
文庫) 」は中古でも最低価格979円かぁ。

三浦和義。1年前、10月10日（現地日時）に三浦はロス市警の留置施設
にて謎の自殺。今、いろいろ、読書中。

政治、スポーツ、音楽、実業など、様々な分野で傑出した人物を、ある時はどっぷりと行動を共にしながら、またある時は人物の足跡を丹念に洗い出しながら、描いていく。例えば趙治勲については、武宮正樹との息詰まる棋聖戦を縦糸に、韓国人としての趙の出生や生育環境の複雑さを横糸に彼の人となりを織り成していき、「中に入って生きることが難しかった」という趙の言葉をキーワードとして、日本と韓国との間に引き裂かれたアイデンティティを彼の本質と結論付ける。
他編も同様、作者は登場人物を明らかにする際必ずテーマを設け、それを明らかにするために彼の生い立ち、生き様、周囲の人物などを丁寧に取材していく。その際最も大事にされるのは、何よりも作者が本人と接した際の印象、である。新鮮な生肉のようにジューシーな作者の感受性が、作品一編一編に命を吹き込んでいる。
短編の構成も読者を飽きさせない臨場感溢れるもので、読み応え十分である。

彼の何処にでも入り込んでしまう勇気と、それを受け入れられてしまう不思議な魅力が好きである。情熱的な部分とそんな自分を冷静に、客観的に判断している部分。この二つがないとルポライターなどにはなれないのだが・・・作品を読むと、取材の対象者に深く関わりたいと思っているが、冷静な自分が自分を支配し、一貫して取材をしているのだという意識を貫いている。しかしその取材が終わりを迎えればわずかながら、寂しさ、虚しさなどが胸を通り過ぎる。その描写が粋であり、読者である私までもがこの取材はもう終わってしまったのかと、なんとも言えない寂しさが残る。
