ソニー・ロリンズのサックスがいかに男性的な色気を持っているか、というのは言葉じゃなかなか説明できない。そこで筒井氏は人妻を登場させて、「朝日のようにさわやかに」をロリンズのように吹くテナー奏者に恋をさせてしまう。さて、亭主はこれにどう解決策をみいだすか・・・

笑いあり、恐怖あり、のショートショートで「ジャズは敷居が高い」なんていう偏見を見事に壊してくれる一冊。巻末では鈴木氏が３６枚に渡るＣＤレビューで本編をフォローしてくれているので、これからジャズを聴き始める人のガイドとしも最適だと思う。

　ジャズの名曲たちをモチーフにして書かれた短編小説の数々。ばかばかしい笑いと適度な毒のブレンド。どこへ落ち着くのかわからない独特の乱調ストーリー。絶妙です。
　決してジャズメンたちばかりが登場する内容ではないので、ジャズに関心のない読者でも楽しく読めますよ。とにかく、筒井康隆の色んな顔が拝める珠玉の作品集ですので、御一読を。

特にジャズメンやジャズ評論家を題材にしたものは日本のジャズ業界を覗いたようで面白い。

解説は盟朋でジャズピアニストの山下洋輔。
