これまで石田作品でハズレたことはなかったが、
今回は唯一の駄作だなと思った。

本の帯には殺人犯の犯人の名が書かれている。
13歳の弟の真相を知りたいと、
中学2年生の兄が調べ始めるんだけど、
この兄が現実にはあり得ないぐらいできすぎている。
だから物語からリアリティがまったく感じられない。
嫌がらせをされても耐え、警察で調べられなかったことを、
いとも簡単に調べ上げ、そして「真犯人」を突き止めるのに、
彼らが自殺するとその秘密を守ってあげる。
そんなこと、あり得るだろうか？

さらに、この作品が最もダメなのが、
「真犯人」の存在である。
真犯人は実際には手を下しておらず、
弟の犯罪は許さざるべき残虐なものなのに、
無実の兄が犯罪をそそのかした「真犯人」を発見することで、
まるでその真犯人すべてが悪いような物語に結果としてなっている。
結局それじゃ、誰か悪者を作ってバッシングする、
本書で批判するマスコミと何ら変わりないだろう。

読みました。
石田さんらしく、重い題材を扱っておきながらも、さらっと読むことが出来ました。
しかし、なんだろう。
主人公のジャガは、少し強すぎる、ような気もした。
中学生という多感な時期、こんなに強くやれるのかと思った。
私だったら無理だと思う。
自分が弱いのかもしれないけれど、この時期って結構、もっと繊細で傷つきやすいんじゃないかと思う。
殺人の動機・心理面や他の中学生達も含めて、あまりこの年頃の子達を描ききれていないように感じてしまいました。

13歳の弟が9歳の少女を惨殺。一変する世間の目に耐えながらも、14歳の主人公が弟の同期を確かめようとする。

酒鬼薔薇事件から始まった一連の未成年者による殺人事件を彷彿とさせる作品です。殺人犯の家族の視点から、容赦ないメディアや世間の姿を描いた点では評価されるべき作品だと思います。

ただ、自分が「キレる若者」と呼ばれた世代なだけに、この作品中での殺人への動機に関する部分が、結局大人の視点だなと思いました。「子ども」といものは、理屈では説明できないわけであり、それを描くのは至難の業であると思いますが、どうしてもこういう小説に物足りなさを感じてしまいます。
