　ランゴリアーズと言う名のモンスター。それは誰もが心に抱える「恐怖」の代名詞だ。

　真夜中に飛行中のジャンボ機から、数人を残してほとんどの乗客が忽然と姿を消すところから物語は始まる。 　しかしほんとうの恐怖はその先にあった。だれかの妄想が、時空のハザマで現実のモンスター化し、残された人々に襲いかかるのである。

　その「恐怖」を余すところなく描写した上で、人々が犠牲を払いながらも、そこから解放されるさまを描く。 　その恐怖とひきかえに、人々が手にしたものは？ 　名作「IT」と通づるテーマを感じる。ストーリーは破綻がなく、完成度の高い作品だ。

ランゴリアーズも時間のとらえ方等なかなかおもしろい作品ですが、
私は「秘密の庭、秘密の窓」の方が面白いと思います。
「おれの小説を盗んだな」とある日突然現れた男、ジョン・シューター
彼はいったい何者なのか？その目的は？
徐々に明らかになっていく狂気がかなり怖いです。

　キングの小説は何冊も読んだが、いつも途中で挫折して飛ばし読みして、終わっていた・・・だがこれは違った。退屈なところが無い・・・ストーリーが破綻せず一気に読ませてくれる。なぜだろうと、考えてみるとこれはキングの作品にしては短い、普通の作家ならこれぐらいの長さで、長編一本にするんだけど、これの３倍とか４倍くらいの長さがキングの長編である。もちろん、話の面白さというのがあるから、読めたのだと思うが、それだけではないように思う・・・。トミーノッカーズにしてもミザリーも、前半面白いんだけど、どうも中盤あたりからだれてくる。無駄なシーンが多い映画のようなものか・・・、そういう意味で、ランゴリアーズは巧くアレンジされた作品だと思う。
