「IT」味も素っ気ないタイトルですが、中身は非常に濃いです。
六人の主人公たちが体験する、子供時代の恐怖。そして、それを忘れていた大人時代にまた蘇る恐怖。
優れた小説にはすべてが描かれるとよく言いますが、この「IT」にもすべてがあります。
子どもたちの成長、大人たちの郷愁、甘酸っぱい初恋、せつない恋愛、変わらぬ友情、そして何よりも恐怖。
ホラーですが、読み終えたあとには爽やかな感動さえ残ります。

個人的に、スティーブン・キングの最高傑作です。
ぜひ一気買いをオススメします。

数あるキング作品の中で私の一番のおすすめがこのITです。

主人公の少年達の住む町に約３０年に一度現れ、住人達を殺す怪物IT。物語は彼らが成長し、中年になり、それぞれの道を歩んでいる現在から始まる。彼らは３０年前にITと戦った。そして彼らは、再びITが現れたらこの町に戻ってくる、という約束をして別れる。再び現れたITを倒すため集結する元少年達。物語は現在と過去を行き来します。少年時代の描写はノスタルジックで、『スタンド･バイ・ミー』が好きな人には特におすすめです。 文庫で４冊にも及ぶ大著ですが、読んでいて全く長さを感じさせません。これを読まずしてキングは語れません。

モダンホラーの最高傑作。
「ＩT」は最初ドラマで知りました。
そのドラマに出てくるピエロが子供心に強烈なトラウマを刻んでくれたんですが、原作は主人公たちの少年時代のエピソードと成長してからの生活の対比などがさらに詳細に描写されてます。
キングは本当文章が上手い。こんな比喩や表現があったのか！と目からぽろぽろ鱗が落ちます。心理描写も秀逸。軽やかなユーモアを交えた筆致が深層にひそむ恐怖をじわじわ炙り出します。
ピエロの不気味な存在感は勿論なんですが、本書一番の見所はやはり郷愁誘う少年時代の夏休みの描写。大人に秘密の河原の隠れ家、映画館でやりたい放題のいじめっ子、淡い初恋、吃音癖もちの頼れるリーダー、はみだしっ子たちの集まり、初めて吸う煙草の味……
読んでて胸がきゅんとするほど懐かしい。
ああ、友達っていいなあ、仲間っていいなあと思います。
子供たちの日常が光に溢れているからこそ、デリーの裏にひそむ悪意の脅威も際立つ。
煙穴の場面と最後のチュードの儀式の場面は過去と現在が交錯しサスペンスを盛り上げる。
人の恐怖に付け込みさまざまに形をかえるＩＴの正体とは？
六人は二十七年の歳月をこえてＩＴと決着をつけることができるのか？
