三島が生きていたら、自爆テロをどのように捉えるだろう？命がけの覚悟もない学生運動に揺れる学園を「動物園」と皮肉り、平和ボケの世相と文化人の「お茶漬けナショナリズム」を罵る。割腹自殺のイメージが強すぎる著者ですが、自分の命よりも大切なモノという価値観を、「危機に向かって絶えず振り絞られた弓」という表現に、正にそのような緊張感を与えられました。命を投げ出しても惜しくないモノがみつかったら、ある意味幸せかも知れませんね。でも、きっとそれは何か大切なモノを守る瞬間にあるのでしょう。

三島のエッセイや対談を集めた本です。確かほぼ年代順に並べてあったので、三島の危機感や切迫感が次第に高まっていくのを一緒に感じとることができます。ページが少なくなるにつれて「ああ、死んじゃう…」と辛くなる、生々しい記録になっています。写真よりもよっぽど肉薄した内容。今の世の中をすべて当時見通していたことがわかり、襟元を正すきっかけになった本です。今からでも遅くありません（特に永田町の皆さん）、潔く、凛々しく生きようとしてください。三島先生はちゃんと認めてくれますよ？

全共闘・反安保闘争が繰り広げられていた時代に書かれたものなので、それらの活動について語られていることは時代を感じさせるかもしれません（特に３つの対談で感じると思います）が、三島由紀夫のメッセージの本質は今も色褪せることがありません。現代の若者へのメッセージとして十分に意味のあるものになっていると思います。
