5.0 out of 5 stars 日本語の素晴らしさを再認識, 2002/6/11
時は終戦間際から終戦直後。舞台は東京下町。一介の団扇屋の親父が書き綴った日記帖、という体裁だ。陰惨この上ない筈であったろう街の人々の生活が生き生きとユーモラスに描かれ、この時代を体験していない自分にも何やら懐かしい思いが浮かんでくる。やがて人々は時代の歯車に乗って数奇な運命を辿り、ついにはGHQを向こうに回しての大作戦。物語の面白さは言うに及ばず。全編に井上ひさしの日本語に対するこだわり・愛着・美意識がこれでもかというくらいにギッシリ詰め込まれている。タネもシカケもてんこ盛り。再読すれば舌を巻く。至福の読書時間を約束してくれる快作だ。

「少年H」という小説が、子供の視点で描かれた日本戦後の庶民の話だとしたら、
本作品は大人の視点から書かれた作品です。
作品のスタイルも「少年H」と似通っていて、日記形式になっています。

「少年H」と比べるとやはり大人の視点なので、描写が細かい（もちろん、著者が違うので、作風の違いかも知れません）。

作中の漢字も古い漢字（例えば　渡辺→渡邊とかの意味です）なので、
漢字慣れしてる人でも、結構読むのがきつくなってきます。

中学生以上にお勧めです。主人公の日々の暮らしぶりも大変興味深いし、全体のストーリーの作りも最高です！
読んで失敗なしです！むしろ、読まないと大失敗です！
