高校時代、友人が今のお前に合っているんじゃないかと手渡され読んだのがこの本の出会いであった。物語に登場する彼らの空虚は今現在どのように消化されたのだろうか、それとも、それを抱えながら今も生きているのだろうか。生き方の一つとして睡眠薬自殺を選択した佐野。優子の死が自己嫌悪と罪の意識を沸き起こし自己充実を感じてしまうが、風の中で声は死にゆく、時が過ぎれば人は死にゆく存在なのだと見定めている主人公。しかし、死に際し自分は何を思い出すのかと自問する節子。主人公がＨ全集を手に取った動作は節子が主人公から旅立つための宿命の行為であったと言い聞かせながら東京から離れてしまう。あれから３０年過ぎて私は年をとったが、物語の彼らも年齢を重ねて団塊の世代として企業から引退する年齢となっている。今の若い世代がどのような視点で自らの生き方を選択しているのか私は知らない、私自身も彼らのような視点で生き方を見据えなかった。まだ２０歳過ぎの年齢で追い詰めてしまう時代だったのだろうか。

若い世代ですが、本書が未曾有に読まれた当時の学生時代がなんだか懐かしく思えました。
フシギです。
と同時にうらやましくも感じました。
率直に同年代の学生同士が語り合っている時代のように思えたからです。
共感にしろ不和にしろ、ちゃんと語り合っていたように感じました。
「語らい」があります。
本書中に登場する佐野という人物の「手紙」にはシミジミしました。
内容を詳しく言うとネタばれなので、興味があれば読んでみてください。

「学生運動」今の私達世代にとっては殆ど縁のない言葉である。しかし、この本に出会いこの言葉にとてもショックを受けた。

あまり政治的な事には関心を持たず自分の事に一生懸命の日々。そうでない人も多々いると思うが、私はそうであった。しかし、あの時代の変革しなければならないという「力」。その「力」には驚かずにはいられなかった。きっと私達は、今が平穏すぎて何かを忘れてしまい無関心になってしまっているのだろう。 今、この時に巡り会えて良かった本である。
