文章は読みやすく、基礎知識がなくても理解が容易かったです。現代思想が専門ではない人間だが、知的な刺激を得たいという人にお勧めです。すでに多くの人が指摘しているように、これだけで構造主義が学べるわけではないということは、素人の私でも感じることですが、私のような入門者には、いきなり難解な本を買ってきて本棚に飾るだけよりも、この本を読んで好奇心をかきたてられて、次の本に移行するというほうがよっぽど建設的ではないかと思います。今の私にはこの本を批判する力はないけれど、もしも何か間違った記述があったとしても、それは将来気付くだろうから大きな問題ではないと思う。それよりも、新しい分野に対して好奇心をかきたててくれたということで、星５つ。

　《レヴィ＝ストロースは要するに「みんな仲良くしようね」と言っており，バルトは「ことばづかいで人は決まる」と言っており，ラカンは「大人になれよ」と言っており，フーコーは「私はバカが嫌いだ」と言っているのでした。》（２００頁）

　本書は，構造主義前史としてマルクス，フロイト，ニーチェを，始祖登場としてソシュールを，四銃士としてフーコー，バルト，レヴィ＝ストロース，ラカンを取り上げ，各自の主張の核心部分のみを簡潔に紹介するという手法をとっている。
　扱う情報量を減らして，その代わり取り上げた情報については比喩を用いるなどして丁寧に説明した，非常に分かりやすい本である。

フーコー、バルト、レヴィ＝ストロース、ラカンの四人を、構造主義の四銃士としてそれぞれ具体的に解説してくれている。これらはどれも非常に難しい話だが、この本はそれぞれを読み物としておもしろく分かりやすく書いてくれている。また、構造主義がサルトルなどの実存主義を打ち砕き、とってかわったことの経緯も、普通に理解するには難しい話だけに、この本の分かりやすさがありがたい。

　贅沢を言うとすれば、本の最後にこれらをまとめた構造主義の全体像についての解説が欲しかった。まあ「寝ながら学ぶ」ための本だから、そこまで求めるのは間違いかもしれないが。新書にしては参考文献リストがそれなりに充実しているので、より専門的な構造主義の文献に挑戦するきっかけの本として便利なんじゃないだろうか。
