紀田 順一郎
1935年(昭和10)、横浜生まれ。慶応義塾大学経済学部卒業。会社勤務を経て執筆活動に入る。文学、近現代の社会風俗、書誌など幅広く論じるほか、推理小説の創作も手がける。2008年(平成20)、『幻想と怪奇の時代』で日本推理作家協会賞(評論その他の部門)受賞。現在、神奈川近代文学館館長(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

■2006年４月に東京で紀田順一郎先生の古希を祝う会があり、私も参加した。その席上、先生は映像を用いて少年時代を回顧するミニ講演を行なった。
■本書は、そのトークを端緒にして書き下ろされたもの。読書体験と共に紀田先生のご両親のことや自らの少年時代の思い出が綴られ、興味深い。
■2006年４月16日付けで紀田先生からいただいた電子書簡によると、先生は映画、幻想怪奇文学、音楽、電子文化を切り口にした回想記をまとめてゆく構想をお持ちであるという趣旨のことが記載されていた。本書と『昭和シネマ館』は先生のクロニクル・シリーズの一環であることが理解できるだろう。回想記シリーズの成就を私は楽しみにしている。

この本を読むきっかけは「週間ブック」で著者自身が紹介しており、折りしも横浜開港150年の年に相応しいタイトルに魅かれたからです。

横浜には新しくエキゾチィックな香りが漂う。山手辺りの散策、本牧、三渓園の佇まいなどなど・・・いつもそこには輝きがあります。

「少年」は内向的な性格で典型的な本の虫、戦後の活字に飢えていた人々の様子を新鮮に書き出しています。戦中、戦後の食料難の時代でも「人はパンにてあらず」なんだなあ、心を燃やしてくれる「言葉」を求めているんだなあ・・・としみじみ。

敗戦時に１０才だった著者の、小学・中学時代の回顧本。病弱で内気だった紀田少年が体験する、集団疎開の恐怖、敗戦による価値観の大転換など。個人的な体験を普遍的な時代史にしているのはさすが。

そして、のちに大読書人になる紀田が、少年期は「読書に関しては（経済的事情もあり）オクテだった」というのも、意外。
