櫻井 よしこ
ハワイ州立大学歴史学部卒業。「クリスチャン・サイエンス・モニター」紙東京支局員、日本テレビニュースキャスターなどを経て、現在ジャーナリストとして活躍中。95年、『エイズ犯罪 血友病患者の悲劇』(中央公論新社)で第26回大宅壮一ノンフィクション賞を受賞。現代日本の諸問題を提起した数々の言論活動により、98年に第46回菊池寛賞を受賞。2007年11月「国家基本問題研究所」を設立し理事長に就任(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

本書は櫻井よしこ氏を編者に迎え、1990年頃から2008年まで幅広い期間のチベット論文を収録しています。

執筆者たちも大学教授・軍事ジャーナリスト・スポーツジャーナリスト・アルピニスト・チベット人など多岐にわたり、多角的にチベットへの考察を深めることが出来ます。

また巻末では「チベット大虐殺を考えるためのブックガイド」と称して「チベット解放」を否定的・肯定的に見る両方の観点からの本を紹介しています。

本書を読むとチベット弾圧の歴史は長く、決して突発的に起こった出来事ではないことを実感させられます。

同時に世界がその手を差し伸べることがないという現状に悲しさを覚えます。

チベットにおける中国共産党の行いは明らかに「侵略」なのに、特に日本では今年３月のチベット騒乱に関して大きな流れは起きませんでした。

それどころか福田首相は「我々日本も大きなことは言えない」なんて言い出す始末です。

そして国民世論はもはや「チベット問題は過去のこと」といった雰囲気すら感じられます。

本書を読んだらそんなことは言えなくなります絶対に。

　アジアの試練というの言い得ている。私たちにとって中国の存在は｢試練｣そのものだといえる。

　野口健氏のすばらしさを始めて知りました。山際澄夫氏との対談が収録されていて、この方のことを長く誤解していたことに気が付いてよかった。彼は登山家としてだけではなく、大きな人物なのだと知ることができた。この方はアスリートこそ日本の至宝のアンバサダーなのだろう。

　櫻井氏の著書と思って手にしましたが、実際はいろいろな方の声が掲載されいて、中国政府のこの40年超の人権抑圧・弾圧振りに憤りを感じた。もともと日本にとって好ましくない中国政府だと思っていた。日本だけにとどまらず、台湾、ウイグル、チベット、モンゴルなどの民族および近隣諸国にたいして、これほどの害悪はないだろう。

　潮氏の国防的観点からの文章も非常に勉強になった。私たちはこの中国という政府に飲み込まれぬよう。日本政府や各国の政府を応援しなければ、私自身の安寧もないと危機を感じる。
　最近は危機を感じることが多いのだが、中国の脅威が本当に一番恐ろしい。
