井上 ひさし
昭和9(1934)年、山形県生まれ。上智大学外国語学部フランス語科卒。浅草フランス座文芸部兼進行係などを経て、戯曲「日本人のへそ」、NHK人形劇「ひょっこりひょうたん島」などを手がける。47年「手鎖心中」で直木賞受賞、54年「しみじみ日本・乃木大将」「小林一茶」で紀伊國屋演劇賞、翌年読売文学賞戯曲賞を受賞。56年「吉里吉里人」で日本SF大賞、翌年読売文学賞小説賞を受賞。平成11(1999)年、菊池寛賞受賞。平成16年、文化功労者(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

洗礼名を授かった神父との縁にはじまり、書物を通じてボローニャを学ぶことウン十年という著者のひたむきともいえる憧憬の念がいきいきと綴られた一冊。
豊かな学識と辛辣な批判精神をユーモアというオブラートに包み、読む者を飽きさせないところはさすが。
行政改革、地方分権、中小企業再生、教育、介護等々をものの見事に解決してきたかに見える「ボローニャ式」の本質とは何なのか、深く考えさせられた。
演劇に力を入れていることに象徴されるように、ボローニャという土地では「唯一性」「一回性」が尊重されているのだと感じた。作った人の顔の見えない「大量生産・大量消費」ではなく、手作業や職人技や地産地消といった、互いに顔の見える共同体によって育まれてきた「守りたい物」が、この街には息づいているようなのだ。
教育も娯楽も、グルメも、おしゃれも、終末期ケアも、工業機械すらも、「わたしがあなたのために」できることをするのである。共通の試験で偏差値を割り出す教育も、ミリオンセラーの流行歌も、チンするだけの中食も、一億総茶髪現象も、介護保険による規制も、ここにはないように書かれている。
実際にどうかはわからないが、ある1つのヒントがここにはある。
たぶん、これをお手本にして「ボローニャ方式マニュアル」に則って改革をしようとすれば、「ボローニャ精神」は死んでしまう。
民主主義とは、たいへん複雑で膨大な時間のかかる制度だということをまず、日本人は自覚しなければならないだろう。

「ボローニャ紀行」、長い間待たされた甲斐のある本でした。井上さんのボローニャへの思いが伝わって来るとともに、読者のその町への好奇心をそそらされるものでした。以前に井上さんのボローニャ紀行の企画をした映像プロデューサー、星野まりこさんの「ボローニャの大実験」を読みましたが、これも逸品、2冊会わせて読むとボローニャの町や井上さんの心の動きが重層的に見ることができ、これもおすすめです。

やってくれましたね〜。
日本語に対する思い入れがつよく、
長い長〜い小説を書くあの井上ひさし氏が、
ボローニャのことを書くとは。
これで日本人がまた大勢押しかけるのではないかなあ。
と内心うらんで（？）おります。
どういうわけか、高校時代からボローニャにあこがれを
抱いてきたのです。自分でも何故なのかわからぬまま。
去年イタリアの主なところを自己流で旅したとき、
ボローニャははずしました。
少しあたためておいてから、かの地を訪ねるつもりでした。
そんな折、手ごろな本を出してくれ本当に感激です。
いつボローニャをおとずれるか・・・
