　A代表の監督は常になんだかんだと評価されるもの。日本代表は現在ジーコ監督だが、今後ドイツW杯に向けていろんな評価がされ、さまざまに監督論が飛び出すだろう。

　そのときに是非とも読んでおきたいのがこの本。2002W杯で韓国をベスト４に導いたヒディンク氏が、監督としてどのように指導してきたか、韓国サッカー協会との関係、選手との信頼関係等が分かる最良の本だ。

アスリートの自伝でこれだけ読ませるものは稀有。必ずしも
順風満帆ではなかったけれど、要所要所で幸運と勝利を引き
寄せてきたヒディング監督の魅力の一端がよくわかる。ほんと
に自著？という疑問がすこし残ったので星4つで。

わずか500日（1年半）という期間で閉鎖的だった韓国サッカーを世界と渡り合うレベルに引き上げた名将ヒディンク。選手からは毒蛇の指導者、隣のおじさん、楽しむサッカーを教えてくれた祖父のような人と人間的にも尊敬され、国からは名誉国民賞を授与されるまでとなった。結果だけでなく人々のこころをも引き付けたヒディンクの手腕の中には、問題児、障害児ら特別学級での教師経験も生かされている。監督として厳しく人として暖かい人物像が伝わってくる。彼が最高の指揮官と認める事はあさはかな考えだが、いつの日か一度日本の次期監督としておいていかれた状態の日本を導いてほしいと思う。
