『本当は恐ろしいグリム童話』を書いた桐生操さんの作品。
古今東西の悪女69人のエピソードが載っている。
本当はどんな女性にも「悪女」な面があるのだが秩序を保つために眠らせている。
自分に忠実に生きようとすると、女は「悪女」になってしまう。
美の追求のために何百人も殺したり、
時の権力者に愛されるためには手段もいとわない。

恐ろしく正直な女性達だ。
ただしそんな彼女達の末路は幸せとは縁遠かったりするのだが。
悪いことをすると必ず自分に返ってくるのかな。
コラムの『西洋性生活史』もなかなか面白かった。
日本人はスケールが小さいらしくて悪女として描かれる人物がいなかったのは残念だ。
まさに「悪女バイブル」的な一冊だろう。

世に悪女と烙印を押され、人々に厭われ、或は愛された女性達のその魔力とも称すべき魅力を解き明かす豊富なエピソードがぎっしり。平易な語り口で、語学や専門知識の乏しい私達一般人のヴォイヤリズムを大いに満足させてくれる作品です。章ごとの（西洋性生活史）も思わず笑いを誘われる楽しいコラムです。只、著者の専門がヨーロッパという事でしょうか、東洋の悪女達が数名しか取り上げられていないのが聊か残念です。
