古今東西の名作を、林真理子が思い入れたっぷりに、若い読者にすすめるガイドブック。若いころ何度も大切に読んだんだろうと想像できる、愛情込もった文章が心地よい。しかし、タイトルは聞いたことのある超有名ものばかりなのに、恥ずかしながらほとんど読んだことがないわっ、と愕然。これはよいきっかけです。皆さん、今からでも遅くない、恥ずかしくない。一緒にがんばって読みましょ。読んだことのあるものには、自分の感想があるから、反論したいところ、「読みが浅いわ」とご意見したくなるところもありますが、それも一興。

でも、本好きの人は誰でも、人には言えない大切な一冊があるはず。それくらい本の好みは、ストレートにその人を映し出すものです。以前「読んでいる本のタイトルを知りたがった母に殺意さえ抱いた」と語っていた著者。それくらい繊細な林真理子が、惜しげもなく紹介できるこれらの本とは別に、誰にも教えたくない、教えられない一冊がきっとあるんじゃないかなーと、勝手に想像してしまいました。

２０代でなくても、ここにあげられている作品は読んでほしいですね。
真理子さん独特の鋭い指摘をしながらも、読んでみたいという気にさせ
てくれます。
それにこれ一冊読破しただけでも、ここにあげられている作品を読んだ
ような気にもしてくれる。
読書好きにはたまらない一冊ですね。

作者がなぜその本を書いたのかについての
「はじめに」や「終わりに」がこの本には無い。

なので私たちが勝手に想像するしかないのだが、
どうも「２０代に読んで欲しい名作」みたいだ。

青年から壮年へと、「大人になる」20代のひとに、
作者は「名作」をとおしてメッセージを伝えようとしている。
そのメッセージとは、大人の知恵、大人としての知恵である。

50作以上の書評が収録されているが、20代かけてゆっくりと
読破したいものである。
