会社の定期健診を受ける度にγ-GTPが高いだの血圧が高いだの尿酸値が高いだのと言っておどされる。でも身体はピンピンしていて何の異常もない。しかし、いつか症状が表れるのではという不安だけは確実にある。何かヘンだぞと思っているところにこの本を読んだ。著者は、医者と定期健診が偽病人を作り出し、不必要にその人を不安に陥れるだけでなく、治療と称して何の効果もないどころか本物の病人に仕立て上げることもあるという恐ろしい事実を、医学論文とデータで平易にかつ説得力を持って訴える。一部の医者を除き、大半の医者は善意でそうしているだろうのがかえって恐ろしい。著者は、治療を受けるのは症状が出てからで十分と言う。僕もこれからはそうしよう。

全国民必読の書。医療の専門学会が、薬品メーカーと組んで、根拠の無い基準値を作り病気と患者を増やしている事実を、著者は素になる論文を精読することで欺瞞を一刀両断。

高血圧、高コレステロール、糖尿病、脳ドックでの異常、癌と診断されている方の大半はこの本を読むとその実態にショックを受けるであろうし、根拠の無い基準で診断した医者もショックを受けるであろう。医療を歪める犯人の実名入り。くしくも今月９月２４日から大新聞で連載されている、一面意見広告の印象操作の手口が良くわかります。

出版後、まだ数ヶ月で、もう何度も増刷を繰り返しているベストセラーだけに、読み応えがある。万人に勧める本だ。ただ、もし読むんだったら、全部をくまなく読む必要があるよ。彼は、決して医学そのものを全部否定しているわけではなく、成人病だって治療した方がいい場合を、ちゃんと書いているんだから。
