最近の桂さんの作品はイマイチ面白いとは思えませんでした。
初期の『ボーイズ・ビー』や『Ｌａｄｙ，　ＧＯ』なんかは
すごく好きだったんですけど。
しかし、この作品は久々に桂さんの作品としては
ヒットでした。

後輩の自殺の原因が自分だと思いつめた岸川は
仕事を辞め、田舎暮らしを始める。
仕事もせず、日々のんびりと過ごす岸川に
村おこしの依頼が届く。
何気なく提案したゲーム輪投げ。
このゲーム輪投げを通して
自棄になっていた心が少しずつ和らいでいく。

登場人物は皆良いキャラクターを持っているのだけれど、
いかんせん登場する人物が多くて
結局それを活かしきれてないのがもったいない。
もっと登場人物を少なくして
それぞれの活躍を増やせば
もっと奥行きのある物語が出来たんじゃないかな、と思う。
そこが残念だけど、
全体的には面白く読めた。

桂さんは割と好きな作家さんなので、期待していたので、ちょっと期待外れ。
リストラ、田舎暮らし、高齢化の進む過疎の村、高齢者達…と、今時のネタをこれだけたくさん材料にすれば、なんか面白いのが書けるだろう…なんて、感じがしちゃいました。
優柔不断な池田さん、おたくっぽい高校生の祐雅、外国人労働者のアウベルト…などなど脇役のキャラクターも実に良いのだけれど、あまりにも盛り沢山過ぎてジジイたちの良さが薄まってしまった感じ。
また、鍵になっている｢ゲーム輪投げ｣は、ひねりすぎてしまったせいかイメージが伝わらず、ゲームの緊迫感が伝わらなかった。
(そういえば、｢県庁の星｣も映像化された方が、面白かった場面も多かった。)
盛り沢山な割に、メインは、ありがちな展開。
最後のシーンにはサプライズもあり…と、ちょっと欲張りすぎたのかな。
蛇足ですが、この装丁はちょっと安っぽい。
桂さんって、他の作品も含めて、あまり装丁に恵まれていないと思うんですけど。

　コピーライターが都会の生活に疲れ、Ｉターン。友を裏切り、離婚され、田舎暮らしでラジコンヘリを飛ばしてぼんやり過ごす。
　そんな田舎の農村で、ニュースポーツ「輪投げ」をひょんなことから考案してしまう。人なつこい根無し草の若者と、さえない市役所職員にどんどん踏み込まれ、頼りにされる。年寄りと出稼ぎ外国人にも交流が深まる人情ストーリー。
