初期の頃のI.W.G.Pはどちらかというと現代の若者の生き方を様々に描き出し、
暖かい雰囲気で描き出していたようにおもう。

本作ではテーマがとても重い。
シングルマザーや非正規の雇用者などを扱い、
低賃金による労働ため、底辺から抜け出せない人々を描き出す。

また逆に天辺にいる人々も描き出すが、その人々も決して幸せという人たちではないのが本作で扱う人々だ。

本作品を通じて、キャラクターたちがとにかくもがき苦しんでいるさまが描かれている。

それが今までの作品との大きな違いに感じられ、
今後のシリーズ展開もどのようになっていくのか、
気になるところだ。

「トラブルシューター」…なんだか今の時代にこの言葉って、少し気恥ずかしい。
ひと昔前の言葉みたいな気がしてしまう。
まあ、シリーズ第一作が書かれたのは相当前ですものね。

内容は、時代に即したテーマを扱っていて、クラシックの曲名も
いくつも出てきて、重厚感かある…ようでいて、実は上滑りで軽い感じ。
確かに、考えさせられたこともたくさんあったし、普段はスルーしてしまっている
ことを、もう少し真剣に、身近な問題として考えるきっかけになったかもしれません。

出版物としては、それで充分な意義があるのかもしれません。…が。

私は、作者が思っていることを、作中にあまりにわかり易く反映させるやり方は
あまり好きではなく。
モノローグでも、そこに書かれているのが主人公マコトの思考なのか、作者の
社会に対して思っていること垂れ流しなのかがわかりづらく、なんだか
マコトに自己を投影し、代弁させている気がして好きになれませんでした。

石田さんはエッセイもたくさん書かれているんだから、自分の気持ちは
そちらに書いていただき、小説の中では、登場人物の息吹きだけを感じたいのです。

「夜の桃」のうすっぺらさにはかなりがっかりしましたが、これも、なんだか
世の中と小説を安易に結びつけて、新聞記事の中に主人公を放りこんだような感じ。

最近の石田さんは「時代にマッチし、世間に求められているスタイリッシュな俺」を
自己プロデュースみたいで、なあんか好きになれないなあ。

個人的には、ウエストゲートパークシリーズ最高傑作である。話としての面白味もあり、リアリティもある。「暗い」という意見があるのも共感できる、しかし現在の社会は多くの人にとって「首相」と違い「楽観」できるものであはないだろう。２０代、３０代の人に是非読んでもらうためにも、早期の文庫化が待ち遠しい。
