「最後の砦」である空港でスーパーバイザーなる仕事をしている遠藤慶太は、その仕事に興味が持てない。何故なら、ノルマ達成など数字目標とはかけ離れた「閑職」である空港業務に異動したからだ。それまでは、企画課など中心部署にいたのだから内心の焦りもある。6年越しにつきあった彼女に振られながら、女性の方が圧倒的に占める割合が高い中で、仕事のできない？！上司や、人間的に問題がありそう？！な同僚に囲まれながら、お客様を送り出す。シフト制なので、朝4時半過ぎの起床もある。彼は、仕事を続けられるのか。。。

書き方に嫌みがない。著者の体験に基づかれているからなのか、臨場感があふれている。何故、サラリーマンが仕事帰りに仲間と飲みにいくのか納得できる。それにしても、遠藤慶太は、チームに気が利く部下達が居て良かったと思う。特に「ＮＯ−ＲＥＣ」事件が起こったときや、「ねずみ」が現れたときの「森尾」ちゃんの指摘は鋭い。「古賀」ちゃんなど特定の女性に対する意識が高いのですが、1年を通して、「あぽやん・遠藤」氏の空港勤務の女性達に対する見方の変化も知りたかった。

私心ですが。。。「森尾」ちゃんは、遠藤氏のこと、好きだったのではないかしら。。。皆さんはどう思われましたでしょうか。

旅行会社所属の空港内常駐のお仕事、本職の仕事ではない為に左遷の扱いだがそれが以外や以外の仕事内容は充実したものだった、って話。実体験を充分に活かした書きかたでなんとなく空港の中には色んな仕事があるだろうな、と思っていましたがそのひとつを垣間見れてよかった。トラブルの内容により彼らのお世話にならないこともありますが、チケットのダブルブッキングや、犯罪じみた強制的な出入国の対応など、様々なエピソードが収録されています。今度から空港では彼らを探してしまうかも。

出世コースではない空港勤務、通称あぽやんと呼ばれる勤務地に異動となり、すっかりやる気をなくしていた男が、同じあぽやんの上司、空港勤務の女性スタッフ、そして大事なお客様と触れ合いながら成長していく心温まる物語だった。旅行会社の中の数ある仕事の中でも空港勤務の仕事にしぼって描かれていたので、とても読みやすかった。
遠藤がお客様のトラブル対応に追われる様子もおもしろかったが、女性が多い職場なので恋愛話が特に気になった。個人的には古賀ちゃんとのデートの様子をもう少し詳細に描いてほしかったし、古賀ちゃんとの恋愛の結末はあっさりい過ぎていてちょっと物足りなかった。
ただ、実は森尾ちゃんも遠藤のことが気になっているのではと思わせるような場面も何度かあったので、もし続編があるのならそちらに期待したい。
