亡き母のいいつけをしっかり守りながらアパート経営するボクさん。
或る日、屋根のペンキ塗りの最中、彼の眼に飛び込んできたものは････｡
その時、誤って梯子から落ちてしまったボクさん･････頭を打ってしまったらしい･･････ボクさんと関わりのある種々の人達の素顔が･････。
最後は、そうだったのかと納得すると同時に言葉では言い表せない辛さが込み上げてきます･････是非ご一読下さい。

主人公の福田幸男が犯人を見つけるわけでもなく探偵とは言い難いが、サッちゃん（幸男＝ボクさん）の目線で事件を追っていくので、彼が突然名探偵になって事件解決に一役買うものと思ってしまう。ストーリー展開は相変わらず著者の巧さを感じさせる満足の一冊。最後には、切ない結末が待っているがそれも納得。

主人公のボクさんは４０代の独身男性でアパートの大家さんです。
知能は中学生程度でとまっているけれど、
ご近所や店子に恵まれて幸せに暮らしています。
しかしある日、アパート内で殺人事件が起こり
住民全員が失踪してしまうという事態に・・・・。

ボクさんは事件を調査しはじめますが、
ボクさんの知らなかった事実が次々と出てきます。
「どんなに親しくなっても所詮は他人」
「弱いものは利用しよう」みたいな醜い感情が露になってきて
読んでいてドヨーンとした気持ちになります。滅入ります。

最後のオチもすごかった。
「そんなオチかよ・・・」とボーゼンとすること必至です。
アリがちな展開なんですけどね、ビックリですよ・・・。
