なんというか、心地よいドライブから帰ってきたような後味のする本です。８つの短編小説がどれもそれぞれ読みやすく楽しめるだけでなく、１冊の本として読み終えた時の気分が何とも言えない、爽快感に浸らせてくれます。

といって、雲ひとつない真っ青な空の下を将来に何の不安も感じずに突っ走っていくような青春物語ではありません。むしろ、そのような青春の日々はとうに過ぎ去り、その頃を思い出しながら過ぎ去った時間をかみ締めることのできる大人の物語です。

少しほろ苦く、少し切なく、ともすれば「あの頃に戻れたら・・・」と思ってしまいそうだけど、ぐっと前を見て、上を見上げるような、大人になる前の自分には絶対に理解できなかった気持ちがわかるようになった自分を知らせてくれる、秋のドライブのような短編集です。

まるで、未来さえも少し見てきたような、不思議なドライブの体験を味わえる一冊です。

今、旬の作家である吉田修一、角田光代、石田衣良らの短編集。日産の『ティアナ』のサイトで公開されていた短編が一冊になりました。

どの物語も『車』に関係するのですが、『あぁ、なんか分かるなぁ』という気になります、読んでいて、作者の気持ちが。

車の中っていうのは一人、若しくは数人の密室空間ですが車の中だから話せちゃう事、考えちゃう事ってありますよね。正にそんな人々が登場人物だと思います。

読んだあと、無性にゆったりとしながら長いドライブがしたくなりました。

　８人の作家がドライブにまつわる物語を書いた、おしゃれな連作短編集です。

　どの作品にも車の名前が出てきませんが、実はこの短編集、日産ＴＥＡＮＡを告知するインターネットサイトに掲載された作品を一冊にまとめたもの。
　８名の作家のサインを配した表紙には８枚の風景写真が載っており、そのうち４枚に深い紺色のセダンが写っています。

　良いセールスマンは車を売るのではない。車のある生活、新しい暮らし方を売るのである。と聞いたことがあります。

　新車で買った車も、何年かすると日常生活にどっぷり浸かってしまい、洗車をサボってうす汚れてきても、気にならなくなります。
　新しい車に乗るときのワクワク感、日常生活から離れるドライブの楽しみを忘れていませんか？
　――と問いかけてくれるような短編集でした。

　どの小説もホッとする内容でしたが、「本を読む旅」と題した石田衣良さんの作品が私のココロに一番しみました。
　本を読むために旅に出る、というのは何とぜいたくな時間の使いかたでしょう。
　「ぼく」は、わくわくしながら、３泊４日の読書旅行に持っていく本を選びます。
　渋滞がはじまる前に都心のマンションを車で出発し、「ぼく」は渋滞にも巻き込まれずに東名高速で快適なドライブを楽しみます。
　夕方の３時に１冊目を読了し、少しそこいらを散歩したあと、「ぼく」は次の小説を開きます。
　夕食を食べながら、「時代小説の次は何を読もうか」と楽しい思索にふける「ぼく」。
　まだ８冊も残っています。
　本を読む旅はまだ始まったばかり……。

　本書を読んで、学生時代の恋人や、結婚生活をはじめた頃の初々しい気持ちを思い出してみませんか。

　忙しい毎日の生活を少しだけ横へ置くことができるのも、読書の醍醐味ですよ。
