東野作品は20作くらい読みましたけど、自分にはこれが最高傑作です。
若干突っ込み所はありつつも見事な叙述トリック、そして石神の純粋すぎる愛と湯川の優しさを描いたストーリー、どちらも大満足でした。
結末は賛否両論ですけど、自分はこれでよかったと思います。
最後の石神の叫びには悲しさだけじゃなく、喜びも含まれてるような気がします。
ちなみにこれから読まれる方は先に「探偵ガリレオ」「予知夢」を読んでおいた方がいいです。
草薙と湯川の関係や、湯川のキャラクターを把握しておいた方が今作を何倍も楽しめますので。

世間とある種隔離されて生活する主人公の切ないほどの片思いが感じ取れました。
高嶺の花に恋焦がれるのに一歩が踏み出せない、踏み出しても続かない、空回り・・共感してしまいました。
ですが直接の言葉としては書かれてないので、人によっては気持ちが見えにくいかもしれません。
人の心理描写がうまく、私は特に物理学者の“一目置いていた人のあまりにもあっけない最期”への嘆きとやるせなさに胸打たれました。
感動できる作品だと思います。

“ガリレオ”湯川助教授のシリーズ第３弾かつ初の長編である本著ですが、一言で言えば「素晴らしい」でした。
　トリックは意外性があり、また登場人物の人間模様（特に石神と靖子）も私は「なるほどな」と思わされました。
　ただ湯川助教授と草薙刑事の名コンビの距離感が前２作（『探偵ガリレオ』『予知夢』）に比べてあったのが少し悲しかったのですが、ストーリー上止むを得ないと解釈しています。
　また最後の湯川助教授の行動には賛否両論ありますが、個人的には彼の「優しさ」からきているものだと思っています。（つまりアリです。）また最後の彼のセリフには感動しました。
