　これは、空想のお話だけど、六十年前には沖縄各地で本当にあったであろう事が書かれていると思います。私たちが戦争を知らないでいられるのは、先人の苦労があっての事だと改めて感謝しました。作品全体は通常の奇想天外なスピード感溢れる、エネルギーに満ちた楽しい（戦争に触れておきながら楽しいなんて書いてすみません。戦争は勿論楽しくありません）お話です。一生懸命やることや、考えることと小馬鹿にするきらいのある私達世代にフッと「歴史」を省みる事をさせてくれる作品だと思いました。

ストーリーの展開は比較的テンポ良く、読みやすい作品だ。

けれども、この作品に描かれている背景には観光と開発、基地と経済、沖縄戦と不発弾などといった構図がある。それは、ある意味で戦後から今日に至るまでの沖縄が内包し、直面してきた問題でもある。

加えて、グスク（ウタキ）とシマ（ムラ）という関係は沖縄の人でなければ、理解しづらいものなのかも知れない。そういった意味では、沖縄に住んでいる人、もしくは住んでいたことのある人こそ一読すべきだろう。

一方、そうでない人にとっても、昨今の沖縄ブームにおいては見過ごされがちな沖縄の「陰」について、改めて考えさせてくれる作品になっていると思う。

彼の作品を読んでから沖縄に遊びに行くと、景色が幾重にも深く見えて来ます。
沖縄戦という重いテーマを下敷きにして、これほど色彩の豊かな世界を見せてくれる作品は無かったと思います。
内地人には贖罪を、沖縄人には勇気を与える今年最高のファンタジーです。
