寝食を惜しんで読んだ。グイグイ小説の中に引き込まれていった。そして読後のすがすがしさに浸っている。

赤穂浪士の討ち入りの日、江戸から少し離れた犬の収容所「御囲」（おかこい）で犬のお世話係をしている犬吉という女性の身に起きた一夜の恋物語。物語は犬吉のはすっぱな語り口調で描かれているのだが、この犬吉の心根の優しいこと、まっすぐなことといったら突き抜けている。喧嘩っ早くて生意気で、寂しがりやのくせに意地っ張り。読み進めていくうちにすっかり犬吉のとりこになった。

辛い少女時代を過ごし、御囲の中にあっても身を売って生きる道は同じ。目の前で惨殺された愛犬「雷光」の亡霊に語りかけることだけが本当の自分と向き合うときだ。そんな彼女のまえに現れた一人の侍。はかない恋。「一緒に死んでもいい」と思うほど一途に犬吉は彼を想う。

恋は実るのか・・実らないのか・・。犬吉と一緒に一喜一憂したが、最後はいかにも犬吉らしい終わりかただと思う。犬吉とはつまりそういう女なのだ。絶対読んで損はない本。お勧めです。

ひとりの女性の狂おしいまでの恋を描ききっている。
一人称のモノローグ調で語られているために感情がとっても素直に表現されていて読んでいるほうも圧倒される。
わずか一夜でこんなに人の運命って変わるのだろうかと感心すること間違いなし。

史実を交えてる為に臨場感もあって当時の風潮（犬を厚く保護する）や人々の不満もよくわかっていい勉強にもなる作品である。

なんといっても犬吉の侍“依田”に対する熱情に尽きる一作である。
ひとりの女性の人生の儚さと運命の出会いをスリリングな展開で描いている。
女性としての情熱的な生き方をしている犬吉に感動しない方はいないと思いますね。

ちょっと辛い描写もあるけど、読み終えたときに幸せな気持ちで本を閉じる事が出来る作品です。

!それにしても諸田玲子に女性主人公はよく似合う。

本作は時世に合わせて犬をこよなく愛した女性を主人公に持ってくることによって、よりその時代に入り込んでいけるというアイデア作品ですが、悪法の“生類憐みの令”に翻弄されつつも健気に生きる“犬吉”の姿は本当にいとおしいほど切ない。

今までの自分の過去を顧みて疑いつつも信じて行こうとする姿には胸を打たれることでしょう。

是非女性に読んでいただいて共感して貰いたい作品であります。
