5.0 out of 5 stars 久々に傑作に出会った。, 2004/7/8
書店で綺麗な表紙に惹かれて手に取ったのが出会いだった。

するとすぐに、何とも、表紙のような神秘的な雰囲気とは大きくかけ離れた精神科医伊良部が登場。
本当に精神科医？と、登場する患者達と私も同じ思いを抱いた。
各患者の症状にも驚くが、その治療方法（？）は更に特殊。
きっと彼も、治療だなんて思っていないんだろう。

しかし、患者達は最後にはそれぞれの病を克服していく。
全て、伊良部の治療の成果だ。

私たち読者は、登場する患者達と同じ「現代病」の予備軍なのだろう。
だからこそ、患者と共に伊良部に振り回され、そして癒される。
この癒しを、是非多くの方に体験していただきたい。

神経科医の伊良部一郎には、医者としての美徳がない。それどころか、社会人の適性があるかどうかも疑わしい。無邪気かつ無責任な言動に、患者は振り回されっぱなし。しかし、気がつけば治療されている。伊良部は患者の話を聞いてないようで聞いているし、診ていないようで診ているのだ（ただ、あまり考えてはいない模様）。そんな伊良部と5人の患者の物語。
どの話を読んでも笑ってしまうが、緻密に描かれた患者の様子には怖さも感じる。似た症状の人が、読者の近くにいるかもしれない（私の場合「コンパニオン」「フレンズ」がそうだった）。文章のテンポが良く、肩肘張らずに楽しく読める作品。

　作者・奥田英朗は、登場人物が、ある切迫した状況に追い込まれていく様子を描くのが非常にうまい。『最悪』『邪魔』においてもその巧妙さは証明されているが、巧妙なあまりその切迫感は読者に伝染し、『最悪』『邪魔』には読後に幾分かの後味の悪さが残ってしまう欠点があったように思う。

　この『イン・ザ・プール』および『空中ブランコ』では、精神科医伊良部一郎が、登場人物の切迫感をあらぬ方向からの「治療」によって解放してゆく……。
　切迫感から解放される心地よさを読者も共有できるバランスのいい作品である。

娯楽としては及第点以上をあげられるけど、特に腹を抱えて笑うことも、感情がこみ上げて涙腺が緩む事も無かった。もう一度読む事はないだろう。
