著者の山本文緒は心の描写が鋭い。特に主人公に感情移入して読んでいる訳ではなくても、所々主人公の心情が「自分もこれを感じたことがある」ということを思い出させてくれる。そのせいか、読み終わった後には、誰かに心の中身を打ち明けたあとの様に気持ちが穏やかになったような気がした。そういう意味では新たに自分を見直せる本だと思う。

私にとってこの本は衝撃的な一冊だった。「乳癌」と言う病気になった本人にしかわかり得ない核を鋭く描いていると思った。私はこの本をきっかけに受診しそして「乳癌」の告知を受けたのだった。一生忘れられない一冊となるだろう！！

　初めて山本文緒の文章に触れたのは高校三年の正月が明けてすぐにあった模試だった。それがこのプラナリアだ。冬休みも真っ最中なのに模試かよ、などと思ったものの、センター試験の僅か二週間前だったためそんなことを深く考える暇もほとんど無く、直向きに鉛筆を動かしていた時期だ。90分間の模試の中で小説として出題された。それが僕の頭の中でずっとひっかかり、ちょこっと調べてみた結果直木賞を受賞してそれ程間もない作品であったのだと言うことを知った。無事大学に合格してから山本文緒の作品をとりあえず全て読んだ。年月を経るに従って深みが増してきていると思う。
　山本文緒は常に人間の弱さや脆さを徹底的に描く。そしてそんな弱さや脆さを持つ登場人物たちは往々にして社会的にダメな人間ばかりだ。それでも彼らは彼らの幸せのために懸命であり続ける。泣いて、笑って、いじけて、時には“自分では無い何か”に責任を全てを投げ出してしまったりもする。そして彼らはいつもそんなことをしてもどうにもならないのだと“気付く”。そんな作品の数々に読者は共感し、教えられ、時には虚無感に苛まれ、あるいは癒されもするのだと思う。挫折したことの無いひとはあまり理解できないかも知れない。
　多分、作者の山本文緒自身それ程強い人間では無いのではないだろうか。エッセイ集である日々是作文を出版した後、体調を崩し数年の間休筆されてしまった。遠くで応援し続けていた結果、遂に先日復帰を果たしたようで、嬉しい限り。そして6/20にファースト･プライオリティ、9/2にプラナリアと連続して文庫化。プラナリアの文庫化に五年もかかった理由はそんなところにあったのかな。それにしても、無理はされないように、今後も是非執筆活動を続けて行って欲しい。
　全然関係無いけど、「ネイキッド」でのチビケンがかわいすぎる。欲しい。
