最後まで楽しめる作品でした。太古の歴史をこれほどま
でに生き生きと創作できる人はなかなかいないだろうと
思う。想像力と資料の収集・研究、作家ならではの解釈
がこういう素晴らしい物語を作り出しのだろうと思う。
正直申し上げますと、孟嘗君を先に読んでおりまして、
これが尋常じゃなく面白かった。ついで、重耳も楽しま
せてもらった。そして本作、やはり面白い。

　特に本作は全編の冒頭と結びの部分が非常に美しく描
かれている。

ついに商王朝が樹立されるまでの主人公の手に汗握る活躍が本書の大部分を占めるが、私は一番最後の「桑林の雨」の章が好きだ。守成は創業より難し、というが、湯王の即位後に何があり、どう立ち向かったか。雨乞いのために自らを犠牲にしようとする湯王、そして湯王の死後、二代目の王の心の目を開かせようと努める伊尹の姿は、リーダーたるものの資格ー徳とは何かを教えてくれる。

全く未開である太古の夏代末期から商代初期の時代を分かり易く、かつ信憑性を感じさせる内容で描かれています。
抵抗を感じがちな古代中国への手引きとして高く評価されるべき完成度の高い作品ではないでしょうか。
