かけおちであり、不倫の仲である大人の男女ふたりがあてどもなく彷徨する表題作「溺レる」は、リアル感が妙に希薄でありながら、なまなましい艶もある、川上さんの独特のセンスにあふれた秀逸の短編だと思います。現代的で、どこか和風の味つけのされた、様々な恋愛の形がつめこまれた、味わい深いおおすすめの一冊です。

　まず、言葉の選び方が凄い。
　ここでは詳述しないが、「ぼうっと」「ひょうっと」の「っ」を抜いただけで、ここまで世界の広がり方が違うとは。まさしく「目から鱗」だ。
　第二に、どちらかと言うと幼稚っぽくなるからタブーに近いとされている、「オノマトペ」の使い方。こんな風に使えば、タブーでもなんでもない。むしろ効果絶大。誰がこの場面で「さやさや」って発想出来る？
　第三に、このエロ満載のストーリーを、品位をもって、哀しく描くことのできる表現力。読後にはエロ感覚よりも、無常感のほうが強く残る。
　私的川上さんランキングではベスト３に確実に入る作品集です。ある程度歳を重ねて、愛の哀しみは分かるけど、愛を諦め切れない。そんな人ならきっと気に入ってくれるはず。

川上弘美さんの本を読んだきっかけは少し陰のある美人だったからだった。独特の言葉を選んで淡々と描写する日常はどこか、幻想の世界だ。日常世界が消えてなくなりそうな所で艶かしい言葉が、また日常の世界に読者を呼び戻す。この日常の中の非日常性はマンガのつげワールドにもどこか似ている。
