「悪童日記」の襲撃的なラストから、「ふたりの証拠」の驚愕の結末を経て、辿り着いてしまった三部作の完結編。　「悪童日記」「ふたりの証拠」の背景をたどっていくこの物語は、やはり期待を裏切らない。　何が真実で、何が嘘なのか。全てが真実で、全てが嘘かもしれない。物語の世界観に引き込まれ、道を見失う。簡潔に、言葉少なに語られたこの世界に、自ら進んで迷い込んで欲しい。

『悪童日記』、『ふたりの証拠』に続いて一気に読んだ。
三冊が三冊ともにスタイルが異なっていて、つど鮮やかに裏切られる。

双子の物語は単純に陰と陽に分けて考えがちだが、真の闇の中では
それも意味をなさないだろう。
作者が描こうとしたのは、まさにその闇の暗さ、そして暗さの中にも
なお浮かび上がるコントラストなのだろうか？

この物語はハンガリーから亡命した作者自身の自伝的要素が、かなり
込められていると聞く。
物語には何らかの帰結を、そして、苦しみの中にも救いを、つい求めて
しまうが、作者はただ、精神と肉体の隅々にたまった澱を吐き出さずには
いられなかったのかもしれない。

巻末に転載されている作者のインタビュー記事の抜粋を読むと、作品世界が
みごとに完結する。

ずっと待っていた’悪童日記’’ふたりの証拠’に続く完結編の文庫版。これまでの話では、話の展開に疑問がたくさんありましたが、この作品で納得しました。そういうことだったのか・・と。戦争や国家やイデオロギーが人間の運命をいかに翻弄してしまうのか考えてしまいました。そんな時代にこうしてしか生きていくことができなかった主人公の姿は、そのまま残酷な時代を象徴しているかのようにも映りました。
