浜辺で殺されていた女性は心理分析官。　彼女はちょうど　大胆にも高名な映画監督を殺害　その後2人の有名人の殺害予告をした連続殺人犯らしき者の分析を。　この事件との関連は如何に。　心理分析官はバース在住ということで　共同捜査となりましたが　ダイヤモンドは半ば強引に有名人殺人事件と深く関わることに。　最愛の奥様ステファニーの死を何とか乗り越えようとしているようですが　西村京太郎先生のように　あっという間に別の女性と結婚してしまわないかがちょっと心配です。

６月の海辺で殺された女性．．．彼女がバースに住むプロファイラーだと判明し、ダイヤモンドも登場する。
前作で愛妻を失ったダイヤモンドは，悲しみを抱えながらも猫のラッフルズと共になんとかやっているようで、被害者が捜査に協力していたトップシークレットの連続殺人にも関わることになる。

独身になったから．．．と言う訳ではないだろうが、プロファイラーの事件の責任者である主任警部や、シリアルキラーのターゲットである元女性歌手、苦手な上司に元ジャーナリストの新人女性警官など、いつにもまして個性的な女性たちが登場する。
ダイヤモンドの方もずいぶん学習したようで、副署長のあしらいかたなど鮮やかなもの。
後半、女性歌手を護衛しながらのシリアルキラーとの対決は、なかなかのサスペンス。
結末は、ある意味とても皮肉。
現代の方向性の違う二つの犯罪を見せつけられた思いが残った。
