「ウイルス進化論はSFではない」
冒頭にこのような言葉が登場し，それを解説する話が述べられている．話としてはSFではないかもしれないが，文章やその裏にあるロジックがSFの域を出ていない．これでは，いくら研究自体が「まとも」であっても，エセ科学の烙印を押されかねないだけに残念である．

「ウイルス進化論」という結論ありきで話が展開されるため，話のロジック（いや，ロジックすら無いかもしれない）が強引なのが非常に目に付く．他の可能性，特にダーウィン進化論で説明できる可能性を一切考慮せず，「~に違いない」という断定を行う姿勢には疑問を感じる．既に大昔に議論されているような話を持ち出し，それがダーウィン進化論では説明できないとか，「ダーウィン進化論では~という説明が!されるが，そのようには考えられない」と，なぜ「考えられない」のかを説明しなかったり（「考えられない」ではなく，「考えていない」の間違いだろう）．

バクテリアにおけるDNA交換が，性の起源（の可能性）として扱われていることは間違いない．このことについて触れた本は他にも多数あるが，そこから本書で述べられているウィルス進化論への流れは話が跳躍しすぎである．読者を納得させたいのであれば，もっとデータなり，理論なりを示し，優れたロジックで話を展開させるべきだ．

この書籍は一見すると「進化は自然淘汰ではなくウイルスによってなされる」という、衝撃的な内容を示唆しているようでもある。
しかし、ダーウィンの進化論はこの書籍のメインテーマである「ウイルスによる変節」をも含んだもっと根源的なものであるため、
この書籍の内容は著作者が記述している「対ダーウィン進化論」ではなく、ダーウィン進化論に内包される一理論に過ぎない。
著作者は（恐らく故意に）この事実を隠蔽し、書籍の衝撃性を高めようとしている節が見受けられる。

一見するとこの書籍の趣旨は「生物の進化は自然淘汰ではなく、
ウイルスによってなされた」との衝撃的な内容であるように思われる。
ところが、ダーウィンの進化論はこの書籍で述べられているような
ウイルスによる変節などをも含んでいる、もっと根源的なもので
あるので、この書籍の内容は「対ダーウィン説」では
そもそもなく、ダーウィンの進化論の手のひら上で踊っている理論に過ぎない。
筆者は（恐らく故意に）この事実を隠し、自説の衝撃性を上げようと
企んでいるようにも見受けられる。
