別役実という著者についてはまったく知らなかったのですが。タイトルと装丁に惹かれて思わず買ってしまいました。まあ「ジャケ買い」みたいなものですね。私はわりと「ジャケ買い」でアタリを引くタイプなのですが。
この本、読んでみたら、びっくり。
物語の世界にグイグイ引きこまれていく自分が･･･

というのは「真っ赤な」ウソで、そもそも、物語ではないですねコレ。
まあ、某BBS用語を用いて言うなれば、「ネタ」ってやつです。
下世話に言う「嘘八百」ってやつです。

おそらく、本書の中で科学的に正しい記述というのはほとんど無いです。でもね、ネタの構成、言葉づかいのおもしろさ、「かぎ括弧」の使い方、シモネタのさじ加減等、とても勉強になります。もちろん単純に面白いです。「虚構の世界を構築する」という観点で見ればコレはまさにファンタジーかもしれないし、サイエンスフィクションという言葉を真に受けると、まさにＳＦと呼んじゃってもいいのかもしれないと思わざるを得ません。（著者はあとがきで「学術書である」と言い張っていますがね）

　さて、本書の中でも私の好きな考察は、「虫とはなにか？」と「虫的兆候について」という本書の構成からは、ちょっと独立した二つの考察です。この２つの考察のホラ話のなかに著者の世界観、人間観がひそかに見え隠れしているのが見所ですね、なんちゃって。

まあ、どこから読んでもＯＫ牧場なので、おでかけのお供に重宝する一冊。

奇書である。何が言いたいのか。理解できない人には永久に理解してもらえない。

　ムシと付くもの、ムシらしきもの、ムシではないものに対する、別役流事典である。

　私は、列車移動中に読んでいて、車中で大笑いしてしまい、恥ずかしくて車輌を移動しました。移動後も、含み笑いが収まらず、変質者と勘違いされたに違いない。

　間違いなく、別役実の事典物の最高傑作である。

　最初から最後まで全くもってあてにならない「虫」に関する情報が満載です。注釈、さらにはあとがきまで信用できません(^-^;)
しかしそのどうしようもないネタ（失礼な表現ですが…）がなんだか思わず納得させられてしまうというか、納得したくなるような考察文（風）に仕上がっている・・・。言い回しなどはいかにも研究論文！！という感じなので、余計おかしく感じます。文章表現というものを知り尽くしているからこそ、なんでしょうか。

うさんくささをさらに助長する挿絵もなかなか。意外に注釈に仕込まれた小ネタも効きます。
これを読めばいままで大嫌いだった、ゴキブリやだににも愛着を覚えるように・・・は、ならないか。
