待望の復刊です。
文庫化してくれないかなぁとずっと思っていたので、
本当にうれしいです。ハヤカワさんありがとうございます！

ミステリとファンタジーがいい塩梅でミックスされていて、
なおかつほのぼのしているストーリー。
そして作者のふくやまさんの絵柄は見ているだけで癒されます。
なんというか懐かしい感じがするのです。

いろんな人に読んでもらいたい名作だと思います。

「アニメージュ」と言う雑誌に１９８７年から１９９２年まで連載されていた作品だそうです。リアルタイムで読んだ事はありませんが図書館のコミックコーナーにこの漫画のコミックスが置いてあったのを読んでこの漫画を知りました。舞台は昭和初期の東京、｢動天社」と言う雑誌社の社員の桧前平介(ひのくまへいすけ)が、ある日、ボーっとしているが見かけによらず推理力があり、不思議な力を持っている、風来坊の牧野草二郎(まきのそうじろう)と言う青年に出会い、色々な事件(殺人事件とかは無い)に遭遇したりする、「ほのぼのとして、どこか懐かしい・・・・・」そんな感じの漫画です。主人公の２人だけでなく主人公の２人がよく行くそば屋看板娘の「フミちゃん」など脇役もみんな人間味があって良いです。[１巻のおすすめの話]「刻限は午後七時」「草ちゃんと総ちゃん」｢銀幕出演談」「北から来た青年」「暗号文の秘密」等

この作品は、昭和初期の日本の文化や、昔の日本映画・推理小説などに対するオマージュやリスペクトに溢れています。

もちろん、その辺の事を知らなくても十分楽しめる作品になっています。
現に、連載してた頃、何も知らない地方の小学生だった私でも、普通に楽しく読んでました。
……でも東京に住み、本読んだりして、少し知識をかじった今の方が何倍も面白いのです。

この作品を読んだ後、実際に舞台となった浅草の浅草寺や上野公園、谷中や根津あたり、あるいは銀座などに行ってみると味わい深いですよ。
意外や意外に当時の建物が残ってたりして、勝手に気分に浸れます。
最近は近代建築のガイドブックなども出てます。

大正・昭和関係の本を読むだけでも、この作品に出てくる固有名詞の意味が分かって面白いです。
『帝劇に三越』とか『浅草六区』とか…。

特に地方出身の私は、セリフにある『ブロマイドのマルベル堂』が実在する店名だという事に驚き、しかも浅草でまだ営業しているのを見て更に驚き……。
『あずきアイス』そっくりのアイスモナカが実際に売られていて驚き…って具合です。

またこの1巻では、草二郎が徹底して『常に子供の味方』でいる所も、凄いな〜、良く描いてるよな〜と思います。
今ではあまり見かけない『古き良きヒーロー像』として…。

そして、あっさり描いてあるけど、1巻では『フミちゃんのことが相当好きらしい』ことも分かります。
まあ読んでみて下さい。
セリフの端々や立ち振舞い、浅草に留まる理由まで…。(←でも、そんなフミちゃんの存在感も2巻以降だんだん薄くなってしまうのですが…。)

以上の事柄は、この文庫版を手に届くところに置いて、パラパラめくってみて気づいたことです。
読めば読むほど、何かしら気付きがあり楽しめます。おすすめ。
