星船から転移されたグインは、ノスフェラスにいた。記憶を失い、セム族の村にいた。この情報は、グラチウスによって、パロに伝えられ、居合わせたハゾスから、ケイロニアへと知らせられる。ケイロニアは総力をあげてグインの捜索に乗りだす。いっぽうグインは、そんな中原の動きを知るはずもなかったが、記憶のないまま、なにかに突き動かされるかのように、ドードーの制止を振り切り、ひたすら中原を目指して歩んでいた。

栗本 薫
別名に中島梓。東京生まれ。早稲田大学文学部卒。77年中島梓名義の「文学の輪郭」で群像新人賞評論部門を受賞。78年『ぼくらの時代』で江戸川乱歩賞受賞。以後、作家・栗本薫、評論家・中島梓を使い分けて多彩な文筆活動を展開する。小説作品は、ミステリ、SF、時代小説、耽美小説と多岐にわたる(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

前半、これまでに比べて比較的テンポよく話が進み、
「お、いよいよか」と思ったのですが…。
吟遊詩人殿とその奥様によって、
またしてもダラダラ続くセリフ地獄。
この世界の登場人物は、心に浮かんだ言葉を
全部口にしなければ気が済まないのだろうか？

作者が言う「私が書いているというより、
登場人物が自分で動いている」というのは、
あながち言い訳ではないとは思う。
しかし、だからといって、キャラたちに好き放題にしゃべらせず、
ある程度要約して、読みやすく仕上げるのが、
この世界の歴史を著すものとしての責務であり、
読者に対する責任ではないだろうか。

とりあえず、ひとつの「」のなかに２ページ以上も押し込めたり、
数ページごとに同じ心情の吐露が出てくるのは、
いい加減にご勘弁願いたい。
次巻からの展開に期待。

マリウスの見せ場というのが大きい。ただ、それだけ。
その他はもうちょっとトークを控えてもらいたい気がする。特にお家騒動の話なんてパロでしてきたのにまた蒸し返しってイメージ。1度でいいよ。
シルヴィアも問題みたいな話がでているけれどケイロニアじゃなくてクムならよかったのにねって感じ。

記憶を無くしてノスフェラスへ取り残されたグィンを迎えにいくために、ケイロニアで遠征軍が組織され・・・というストーリーだなのだが、例によってなかなか進んでくれない。本巻のメインストーリーは、ケイロニア王家内のホームドラマ的出来事で占められる。家出していた長女の夫の一時帰還、出征中の夫の不在中に起る次女の不倫・・というわけだ。
しばらくパロ中心に展開していたストーリーが、しばらくぶりにケイロニアに戻ってきたわけだが、この展開の遅さ、また華のなさはどうしたものか・・。
豊穣な言葉でつづられた大河小説ということかもしれないが、甘ったるい無駄な言葉でごてごてに飾られた中身のない菓子のようで、満足度は低い。
