神林 長平
1953年新潟県生まれ。1979年、第5回ハヤカワ・SFコンテスト佳作入選作「狐と踊れ」で作家デビュー。第1長篇『あなたの魂に安らぎあれ』以来、独自の世界観をもとに「言葉」「機械」などのテーマを重層的に絡みあわせた作品を多数発表、SFファンの圧倒的な支持を受けている。『敵は海賊・海賊版』、『グッドラック 戦闘妖精・雪風』などの長短篇で、星雲賞を数多く受賞(以上、早川書房刊)。1995年、『言壷』で第16回日本SF大賞を受賞した(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

今作は、神林氏が書いた中でも比較的軽い感じのもので、神林入門書見たいな感じである、

本書は、日光にあたることができない人々の世界で構成された星で、愛人に溺愛する快楽主義の主人公が自分の世界の危機？を探るうちに真の世界の姿を垣間見る、あらすじだけ読んだら難そうだが、実はきわめておき楽な作品である、その中にもすこし考えさせられるような「言葉」があるのは神林ワールドならでは。

「空洞惑星」というと、石原藤夫の「ハイウェイ惑星」の中に入っている短編を思い出すが、本書の空洞惑星の方がイメージをしやすかったと思う。

日に当たると死んでしまうほどの病気にかかってしまいながら、「恋人が一緒だから幸せ！」というような明るい主人公なのと、ミステリあり、ギャグありで、内容が「死」とか「死後」という暗めなものを軸にしているにもかかわらず、楽しく読めた。作者にとっては、「死後」よりも「死語（普通に使う死語の意味ではなくて、語彙が死んでしまうこと。私の創作語）」の方がきっと恐怖なのかもしれない。

神林長平作品ではかなりライトな作品。
主人公が「今楽しい、だからそれでいいや」的な思考で、周りがどんなことを言おうがそれは変わらない。
ヘヴィな思索とSFを期待すると肩透かしを食らうかもしれません。
が、神林テイストはしっかりあります。神林SF初心者、あるいはライトノベルからちょっと背伸びをしたい人にお勧め。
