栗本 薫
別名に中島梓。東京生まれ。早稲田大学文学部卒。77年中島梓名義の「文学の輪郭」で群像新人賞評論部門を受賞。78年『ぼくらの時代』で江戸川乱歩賞受賞。以後、作家・栗本薫、評論家・中島梓を使い分けて多彩な文筆活動を展開する。小説作品は、ミステリ、SF、時代小説、耽美小説と多岐にわたる。ライフワークともいうべき一大長篇ロマン「グイン・サーガ」は、全100巻を目指して早川書房より刊行中(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

最近発売されたこの作者の作品には、がっかりするものが多いです。今回久々のアルドナリス登場ということもあり期待していたのですが、くどくどと書かれる状況説明ばかりでページが進んでしまい、読者（特にアルドナリスファン）が望んでいるような展開は皆無でした。別に探偵はアルドナリスでなくてもよいので、こんな話を書いている暇があったら、本編を進めてほしいと思いました。

長年読んできましたが、今回ほど失望落胆し、
怒りさえ覚えた巻は初めてです。

最近文体がしつこいなど細かい不満はあったのですが
今回の外伝はそれを超えて失望しました。

作者はメタフィクションとして
ナリスに会えることの喜びを
あとがきで語っていますが
ハッキリいって好きなキャラを登場させたいだけでは？

本編のストーリー展開や重みを無視しているだけに感じます。

無論外伝なので
既に死んでしまった登場人物の過去を書くことも
有意義だとは思いますが
それは本編と関連する限りにおいて有意義なのであって
メタフィクションとして遊ぶのであれば
それは外伝ではなく、単なる自己満足だと思います。

これを機会に
グインサーガを読むのはやめようかと

本気で考えてしまう巻でした。

グインワールドは大好きです。
気付いてみれば、既に20年くらい読みつづけています。
外伝も勿論好きです。
本編では見られないキャラの一面を見ることができるから。

でも、これはちょっと……。
ヤオイではないけれど、マルガサーガなどと同様、同人誌として天狼叢書から出せばこんなに酷評も出なかったでしょう。

とはいえ、買っちゃうし、読んじゃうところが、ファンの弱みでしょうか。
＃喜び勇んで買ったのに、まだ4分の3くらいしか
＃読み終えていないことを告白します。(^^;;;;;
