面白かったです。音楽の流れに身を任せ一気読み。

時は1870年、ナポレオン３世・ビスマルクらの登場するヨーロッパ。
この物語は大聖堂のパイプオルガンの響きからはじまり、全編音楽が流れている。
ブルックナー、ベートーベン、シュトラウスのワルツの響きの片隅から聞こえてきたのは
ＦＧＴＨですか？「Welcome to the Plesure Dome!」の声に導かれ

ウィーンフィルの練習指揮者フランキー君はハリウッドならぬロンドンへ。
自信がありながらも認められない若き音楽家は、謎のミューズに満足されることだけを求める。
ソーホーのクラブＤＪダニエルは叫ぶ。理想の音楽、それは、すでに、それぞれの音楽のうちにあると。
オルガン技師は純粋な神の音楽を現前させんと欲する。

登場人物それぞれの求める「最上の音楽」の主張、それが物語を導き、それぞれの行き着いた所は。。。

ストーリーの構成、伏線、さすが。
クラシック音楽が好きで、シンセサイザーをさわり、
ロンドンとウィーンが好きで、昔のＵＫロックが好きな人、はまるでしょう。

＋アルペンスキーの好きな人、にやりとしながらさらっと読みましょう。

竹宮恵子さんにマンガ化して欲しいナ。

近代欧州の王宮に支えられたクラシック音楽と
現代テクノロジーに裏付けられたアンビエント音楽を
話の上でも統合させた、近代SFサスペンス小説。

いい意味でも悪い意味でも、最終的な評価は
このアマルガムを受け入れられるかどうか、
という点に尽きる。残念ながら私には難しい。

音楽の知識が詳しいのはわかる。が、例えば
欧州の同時期をよく舞台に設定する佐藤亜紀の小説と
比較しても、時代の描き方が安くて薄いことは否めない。

　1800年代のヨーロッパを舞台に、才能がありながら、若すぎることでオーケストラに受け入れられない青年の苦悩を描いた物語。
　だけなら普通なのだが、そこに当時はあり得なかった音響機器が登場したら、それは受け入れられる人とそうでない人に分かれるだろう。受け入れられる人は幸せだ。この独特の世界に思う存分、酔いしれることができる。「魔笛」と呼ばれる麻薬を使って「最高の音楽」を探し続けるフランツ。著者は、人類最大の快楽は音楽であると言ってはばからない。
　最後には、機械による音楽とブルックナーのオルガン演奏との対決があり、クラシックファンならずとも手に汗をにぎる。この独特の世界、一度はまると癖になる作家である。
