読み終わった後、涙が止まらず、
しばらくこの作品の世界から抜け出せなかった。
現代の日本が失ってしまったものに対する哀しみ、
そして八百万の神が存在する日本という国をもっと大切にしたいという想い、
深い感動、そういったものが混沌として頭の中をかけめぐり、
文字通り放心状態だった。命とは何か、善悪とは何かといったことを

深く考えさせてくれる素晴らしい作品。透明感のある絵も美しい。
このような作品を描いてくれた著者に感謝したい。

　ハードカバーで全巻持ってます。画のすばらしさ、ストーリーの壮大さ、人の命をかけた深く熱い想いなど、作品としてのすばらしさは、他の方々のレビューの通りです。
　ですが、この作品は、日本の漫画の神髄に触れる、或いは日本でしか生まれ得なかった作品ではないかと思います。
　善と悪。明快な二元論は美しく、私たちを魅了します。事実、中東で生まれた三つ子の宗教は、その二元論と（なるべく）明快な論理の上に、壮麗な文明、文化を花開かせています。それは私たちの生の美しさにとって、より素晴らしい美しさの福音であるとともに、私たちの魂の牢獄でもあったのかもしれません。
　どちらかを選ぶのではなく、選ばない強さ。その向こうに、とても明快な人間主義があるように思えます。「百億の昼と千億の夜」、「デビルマン」にも繋がる、けれども未来に希望を見つけようとする、明るい人間賛歌を、是非読んでみてください。「世界を統べる神」がいないこの国だからこそのストーリーだと思います。

人は何処から来て何処へ行くのか。そして神々とはどういう存在なのか...。

舞台は一万年以上前の古代日本。善なる亞神（あしん）と悪なる威神（いしん）らが目に見える神々として存在していた時代。目に見えぬ神々を信奉する部族の少年・鷹野は兄のような存在で師でもある青年・青比古との修行中、川に流され捨てられていた赤ん坊を拾う。トオコと名付けられたその赤ん坊は、家族のいない鷹野の強い希望により妹として育てられることになる。
平和に時が過ぎトオコが7歳になったある日、自分たちの邑（むら）が邪悪な威神・鬼幽の一派によって襲われてしまう。生き残ったのは用があり外出していたトオコ、鷹野、青比古のみ。彼らは邑を離れ、威神と対立する亞神の信徒たちと行動を共にすることになる...。

イティハーサは十数年かけて描かれた作品なのですが、ストーリーの壮大さや絵の安定した美しさなど全体的に完成度が高く、作者の並々ならぬ才能と表現力を感じさせられます。神々のことが描かれていますが宗教色が濃いわけではなく、どちらかといえば善悪だけでは区別し切れない人間の複雑さが描かれているように思います。

「おすすめの本は？」と聞かれたら、間違いなくこの作品をすすめると思います。
ハヤカワ書房から出ているイティハーサは全7巻。文庫本サイズなので場所も取らないですし持ち運びにもいいと思います。
