4.0 out of 5 stars 沢崎シリーズを知らなくてもおもしろい, 2006/9/25

沢崎シリーズが好きで、ドラクエのごとく順当にここまで読み進めました（笑）。
ちなみにこれはシリーズ３作目の短編集。

第一作長編「そして夜は甦る」では鼻につきすぎて気になった”ええかっこしい節”も、
ここまでくるとだいぶ薄まっていて、
どんな人でも読みやすいと思います。
（まあ、あの”沢崎節”が、
このシリーズの魅力のひとつでもあるんですけど）

ちなみに、短編のひとつひとつの完成度はとても高い。
まるでシーンが目の前に浮かぶかのような緻密な情景描写、
間延びせず飽きさせない場面転換…まったくムダがなく、本当に見事。
沢崎シリーズを知らなかったとしても問題なし！
最後まで一気に楽しめます。

　西新宿の探偵事務所に詰めている沢崎が活躍する短篇集。一匹狼として、組織に縛られずに行動する姿、時折口にする洒落た台詞など、沢崎には、フィリップ・マーロウを彷彿させる私立探偵の匂いがしますね。この短篇集には、十代の少年と少女が事件に深く関わる話が、六つ、収められています。
　著者のデビュー作『そして夜は甦る』のあとに書かれた「少年の見た男」「子供を失った男」「二四〇号室の男」、第二長篇『私が殺した少女』執筆中に書かれた「イニシアル<Ｍ>の男」、そのあとに書かれた「歩道橋の男」「選ばれる男」の六篇。これに、本文庫のための書き下ろしとして、掌篇「探偵志願の男」が、ボーナス・トラック的に掲載されています。
　最も印象に深く残ったのは、静謐で凛としたたたずまいを感じさせる文章の趣でしたね。雨が降る中からしみ出してくるような、孤愁に満ちたハードボイルドの雰囲気。それが身にしみて、ぐっときました。酔わされました。
　収録作品の中では、「子供を失った男」「二四〇号室の男」「歩道橋の男」「探偵志願の男」が、読みごたえあったなあ。どれも、銘酒を酌むような素晴らしい味わい。なかでひとつだけ選ぶとしたら、「歩道橋の男」でしょうか。スピーディーで、変化に富んだ展開。鍵となる人物が、表立って登場しないところ。後を引く余韻。珠玉の名品です。

沢崎を主人公に据えた連作は、長編が3作とこの短編集が1作で3部作＋1の沢崎シリーズとなる。この短編集各話の構成は中篇または中長編の長さで、精緻な文体と構成が魅力の著者にあって、中篇でもその味わいを発揮するものの、やはり長編よりは劣る。本書はいわば箸休め的な内容で、沢崎シリーズの特徴である、実時間とリンクし発生する謎のために、初読者の方は、第1作である「そして夜は甦る」から読み進まれることを強くお勧めする。もちろん沢崎ファンなら、必携である。作中時間の流れは、短編1「少年の見た男」1986年から短編6「選ばれる男」1989年まで、そしてこの文庫版のみの収録である「あとがきに代えて」1997年となる。私はもちろん沢崎ファンなので、この文庫版にのみ収録されている「あとがきに代えて」のためだけに購入した。
