2.0 out of 5 stars 神林長平の描くSFラヴストーリー, 2001/12/25
　これまでどちらかというと「機械と人間」の境界を描き続けてきた著者が、それに加え新たに「月人（カミス人）と地球人（リンボス人）」「男と女」そして「姉と弟」の境界線へときわめて神林SF的にアプローチを試みたのが本作での見どころではないだろうか。

　理論士イシスは、詩人である弟のアシリスとの恋を成就させるため、事象制御装置を使い、地球（リンボス）でそのシミュレーションを行う。

　果たして「姉と弟」の恋愛は成立しうるのか、というテーマはしかし、すぐにアシリスの「自分は姉であるイシスを愛しているのか、それともイシスが姉でなくとも彼女を愛しただろうか」という疑問に取って代わられてしまう。
　アシリスの思索の旅が始まる。

　個人的には著者の作品は大別して「酔っぱらったような脳天気なハイなもの」と「ひたすら悩み続ける病的に鬱なもの」にわけられると勝手に思っているのだが、本著は典型的な後者の例。
　敵は海賊シリーズに観られるような派手なアクションシーンもない。

　しかし、あの神林長平がきわめてSF的アプローチで恋愛を描いた、という一点においてエポックメイキングな作品に仕上がっている。

読者が本書を読み進むに従って想起される物語は複数この小説世界に描出されない。
物語の意義は物語の外に生起する。
すなわち読者によって、物語の価値が存在し、登場人物が生起する。
決して物語の中ではなく、読者が読み進む中にその世界が生起するのだ。
読者の意志によって小説世界を構築し、作者の用意した言語によって物語の世界が創造し存在させることが出来るのだ。

　1992年に出た単行本を上下巻に分冊、文庫化したもの。
　世界の変容と自己を扱った作品群のひとつに位置づけられるだろう。
　入れ子状になった物語がたがいに溶け合いながら、混沌を深めていく。ちゃんと読んでいないと理解できなくなる。分厚い本でもあり、体調が良くて時間のたっぷりあるときに挑戦すべきだろう。
　上巻は第二部の真ん中あたりまで収録されている。
450頁ほども読み進めてきたのに、どんな結末へと向かっているのか、まったく分からないところが神林作品の魅力だろう。
