今回「決定版」と銘打たれて刊行された本書収録短編の内容についてはすでに旧版のレビューに書いてしまっているので省略。

旧版との主な相違点は、会話部分を中心に、訳文の細かなところに修正が施されていることと、瀬名秀明による解説とアシモフの「ロボット／AI作品一覧」のリストが付されている点だ。このところロボット関連の著作が続いている瀬名の解説は、若干力みすぎの部分があるものの、ハーラン・エリスンが手がけた『われはロボット』の脚本や、石川英輔のロボットテーマの作品にも言及するなど、なかなか行き届いていて好感が持てる。

本書の読後、アシモフのロボット作品に興味を持たれた方には、『鋼鉄都市』、『はだかの太陽』などの一連の長編や、短編集『コンプリート・ロボット』を、また、より広くロボット全般について知りたいという方には、瀬名が編者となり、ロボットをめぐる小説と識者のエッセイを大部な１冊のアンソロジーにまとめた『ロボット・オペラ』をおすすめしておきたい。

なお、帯には「映画『アイ, ロボット』の原作」と刷り込まれているが、映画自体は（suggested by Isaac Asimov's ｂook とあるように）、タイトルと登場人物の名前と「三原則」、そして収録短編中のあちこちからアイデアの断片をかき集めて刑事アクション映画に仕立て上げたもので、オリジナルとは別物と考えていい。

いつかハーラン・エリスンの脚本による「われはロボット」を見てみたいものだ。

高校時代に読んだのですが、映画化に当たり、もう一度読み返してみました。確かに、古さを感じる部分もない訳ではありませんが、それを差し引いてもあまりある作品だと思います。

SFと銘打っていますが、ミステリー仕立てになっており、SFファンはもちろんのこと、ミステリーファンの方にも十二分に楽しんでもらえる作品だと思います。

この作品を語る際に欠くことができないのは、やはり「ロボット三原則」でしょう。この「ロボット三原則」が現実をも動かし、「ロボットの時代」（アシモフの作品にもありましたね！）とも言える「現代」の一端を支えていることを考えると、SFというジャンルの大きさ、そして人間の想像力の豊かさ、無限さというものを強く感じました。SFが時代を予見するのはヴェルヌの時代から変わっていません。むしろ、現実こそがこの作品に描かれる「ロボット開発史」をなぞっているように感じたのは、私だけでしょうか。

現実を予見し、現実をリードしているこの作品を、SF古典傑作の一つと言っても過言ではないと思います。

まず、文字が大きい。そして分厚い。旧訳版の記憶があいまいので厳格な比較ができないのだが、本屋でパラパラめくったときに違和感を感じ、読みなれたハインラインの月は無慈悲な夜の女王と比べると明らかに大きな文字を使っている。その分、ページ数が多いのだろう。かさだか紙ならぬかさだか文字だろうか。

内容的にはさほど怪訝になる部分も無いが、昔の物も乱暴な翻訳ではないので個人的にはどちらでも行けます。

SF入門にはもってこいです。
