　正直上巻は何をしているのかよく分かりませんでした。小説の体裁をした、作者の思考実験かとも思いながら読んでいました。
　下巻も前半まで電脳もののSFではありがちな展開が続くので、なかなか読み進められなかったのですが、タイトルである「順列都市」の章に入ると状況が一変しました。
　ぶっちゃけ、鳥肌が立ちました(笑)

　この物語は、宇宙論について、面白い構想を展開させています。
　前半では意識や知性に関する考察がこの物語の主題かとも思ったのですが、騙されました。そんなものは、前菜のようなものです。
　主題は宇宙論なのです。
　この物語を読んでいると、質量とエネルギーが同じ存在である事、宇宙が膨張を続け、その上空間の拡大と共に真空のエネルギーは増大し続ける事や、ベビーユニバース論、超ひもと膜などに思いを馳せてしまいます。

　また「順列都市」の章は、人類と宗教の関係を皮肉っぽく描いているようで、面白かったです。

　むろん小説なので、作者の宇宙論への想像が作品となっているだけであると言えるのですが、最大級の知的興奮を得られる物語である事は間違いありません。

　その内容が何か、とは、説明するより実際読んで頂いた方が正確に伝わりますので、是非読んでください。てゆーか読め！この本は間違い無く読む価値がある一冊です（あ、二冊か）。

現世を越え、さらなる無限の世界をＰＣ上で走らせた。
それはほんの一瞬の出来事であったが、それにより現世を越えた世界へ足を踏み入れる。

山岸さんの訳もわかりやすく、まさに、センスオヴワンダーと呼べる作品でしょう。
