　原題は"Ender's Game"。エンダーという名前は、アンドリューの別名だそうだが、当然「終わらせるもの」という含意も持っている。その「終わらせるもの」となることを大人たちに期待される一人の少年が、類まれな才能と痛々しい程の素直さの挟間で葛藤しながら成長していく、ある意味王道と言えば王道的ストーリー。

　「終わらせるもの」であるが故に、誰にも頼ることを許されないエンダー。その賢さ、素直さ故に、理不尽な障壁を突き付けられても、自らの義務を放棄することはできず、いろいろな意味で大人にならざるを得ないエンダーの姿は、「ゲーム」という表現からは最も遠いものかもしれない。しかしその一方で、確かに物語はエンダーの出会う様々な「ゲーム」を中心に進行していく。まあ、英語の"Play the game."（真剣にやる）という言葉が示す通り、これらのゲームは真剣に取り組まれるからこそ意味があるので、その意味でも日本語の「ゲーム」とは違うのかもしれない。

　また、面白かったのはエンダーの兄と姉（共に10代前半でしかない）が、ネットの匿名フォーラムでいくつもの偽名（時には使い捨ての）を駆使して、様々な場所で議論を繰り広げ、論戦の腕を磨きながら、次第に公的なフォーラムへ活動の場所を移し、最終的には現実社会に対して影響力を行使できるまでになる下りで、今のインターネットの有り様と可能性をかなりのレベルで表しているように思う。...成り上がりの過程で自作自演もやってるし。20年近く前の小説だという事実には驚くほかない。

　海外SFのネックになりがちな翻訳も読みやすいので、手に取って損はないと思う。今まで読んでいなかったのが悔やまれる、と思える久しぶりの一冊。やはり名作は名作、ということなのか。

ストーリーについては文句ありません。
一人の天才少年の成長と苦悩を描いており、こういう作品は好きです。
無重力での戦闘（ゲーム）の描写にも面白いものがあります。

が、訳がひどすぎます。
訳者の方のポリシーなのかもしれませんし、スラングが多い原文なのでご苦労されているのかもしれませんが、
それにしても直訳が多すぎて閉口してしまいます。
特に肝心のセリフ部分に倒置法が多すぎて、まともな日本語になってない箇所すらあります。
句読点の付け方も明らかに変です。
もっと続きが読みたい、でも訳でイライラ。
こんな作品は初めてです。

これから読もうとされる方は、この点は是非ご考慮ください。
ただ、ストーリーは良いので、苦労する価値はあると思いますが。

主人公エンダーの繊細さと圧倒的な才能に魅了され、無重力空間での戦闘の描写もですが兄姉をはじめとする人間関係での苦しみの物語に最後まで強力に引き回されました。

少し前に著者自身による改訂版を読みました。前書きがはじめて書かれていて、そこには例によってだらだらと著者の考えた事などが書かれていたのですが、その中でも、天才児を集めた学級からの手紙をもらった話が印象的でした。子供たちは、エンダーに感情移入して、自分たちの物語だと言っていました。

基本的には、主人公エンダー・ヴィッキンのバトルスクールでのお話です。
ですが、最後はどんでん返しでなるほどなあと思います。
