「ロボット３原則」の本です。著者名、表題よりもそちらで有名な本作。
内容は「ロボットの話だからSFだろ？」と思っていたんですが、付け足すなら、ミステリ、です。
「ロボット３原則」というプログラム上のルールがありまして、

第1条　ロボットは人間に危害を加えてはならない。また、その危険を看過す
　　　ることによって、人間に危害を及ぼしてはならない。
第2条　ロボットは人間にあたえられた命令に服従しなければならない。ただ
　　　し、あたえられた命令が、第1条に反する場合は、この限りでない。
第3条　ロボットは、前掲第1条および第2条に反するおそれのないかぎり、自
　　　己をまもらなければならない。

以上の「３原則」がもとで、ロボットが起こす一見、誤作動にしか思えない行
動の原因を探っていくストーリーです。

世界3大SF作家の代表作であるロボットシリーズ本編の第一作。
このシリーズは、雑多な短編集である「ロボットの時代」、ミステリーとの融合となる三部作「鋼鉄都市」「はだかの太陽」「夜明けのロボット」、更に、もう一つの大傑作シリーズであるファウンデーションシリーズとの融合を決定づける「ロボットと帝国」、映画化された最高傑作「バイセンテニアル・マン」等、膨大なものとなっています。
ロボットの進化を「制約下」でのものになると予想し、様々な未来図を描いてみせたアシモフですが、本作は時系列な短編集であり、本作のみで一つのクライマックスを迎える内容となっています。
少しずつ、ロボットの社会進出が進んで行くさまが、ユーモラスに、そして、ミステリ仕立てで描かれた本作のラストは、正に息を呑むものです。
「バイセンテニアル・マン」「ロボットと帝国」「ファウンデーションと地球」といった別の角度の決末に至る全てが本書に含まれています。
歴史的な、永遠に残る、正にオールタイムベスト。ジャンルを超えて古典となった名作、教養としても、単純な楽しみとしても、是非、お読みいただきたいと思います。
