落ち込んだり、なんだか毎日がうまくいかないような気がする日に開くのに最適な一冊です。
主人公の“ぼく”と猫のピートがどん底から、これでもかこれでもかとひっくり返してくれる様は本当に痛快。
スピーディな展開のハインラインの傑作に、主人公が乗り移ったかのような福島氏の翻訳がまたいい味なのです。

一気に読み進み、『夏への扉』を閉じた時に、ふさいでいた気持ちをすっかり忘れてしまうこと請け合いです。
何度も繰り返して読んでも飽きず、友人に勧めまくっています。SFといってもタイムトラベルの味付けくらいなので読みやすく、読んだ友人は１００％よかった！と言ってくれてます。
本当に楽しめ、気持ちよくやる気をもらえる一冊。

ぜひ、この爽快感を味わってほしいです。

5.0 out of 5 stars オール・タイム・ベスト。SFというジャンルを超えた傑作。, 2006/8/8
世界三大SF作家の一人、ハインラインの最高傑作の一つ。ハヤカワ書房の投票では一位に輝いたこともあります。
発明家の主人公が共同経営者や婚約者に裏切られつつも、現実逃避の30年後へと向かう冷凍睡眠、元の世界へ戻るタイムトリップ等の波乱の旅を軽快に、前向きに進んで行きます。
猫が小品としてアクセントを与えていますが、猫は余り、重要なファクターではありません。
主人公の欲のない、お人好しでありながらも、前向きで、どこか頼りないキャラクターに軽やかさのスパイスを振りかけてくれる存在です。
どこか気まぐれで、どこかmy way、そんな元気の出る一人の青年の人生の旅を描いた本作は、とても読みやすく、ハインラインの作品にしては、好き嫌いが出ないと思います。
しかし、ところどこらには、流石！と唸らせる名文句もちりばめられています。
タイムトラベル物とか、SFとかいう縛りを超えた軽快な傑作で、是非、SFファン以外にも、読んでいただきたいです。
すっと読めてしまいますよ。

書評として致命的かもしれませんが筋書きなどは書きません。
まず本書を(図書館などで)手に取り、数ページ軽く読んで下さい。
数ページのつもりで数十ページ読んでしまったら貴方の負け。すぐにご
注文を。貴方の元にもピート君がやってきます。

｢夏への扉｣はSFを背景とした｢古典的名作小説｣です。SFの中の名作では

なく、広く世間に読まれるべき名作小説の一編としてお読み下さい。
何も考えずに手にとって、老若男女科学知識に疎い人でも楽しめる良書
です。断言します。
タイトルにも掲げましたが、作者はSFマニアに向けてこの本の発表して
いないのです。

…この本は全ての愛猫家に捧げられています。
